It’s Wednesday so that must mean it’s new comic book day so here are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available from your local comic book store including the first issue of Dark Horse’s The Seeds.

Title: The Seeds

Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: Ann Nocenti and David Aja. Cover by David Aja.

I loved David Aja’s work on Hawkeye and have been following Ann Nocenti’s work for longer than either of us would like to admit. This new series from two of comics best creators looks to be amongst their best work yet.

“The bees are swarming. What do they know that we don’t?

The rich have built walls around their wealth and scramble into escape rockets. The romantic and the ruthless cross over into the lawless wilds of Zone-B. A few cantankerous aliens have come to collect the last dregs of humanity’s essence for the celestial embryo bank. One of them falls in love.

Astra is an idealistic journalist who stumbles into the story of a lifetime, only to realize that if she reports it, she’ll destroy the last hope of a dying world. How far will she go to get her story? An eco-fiction tech-thriller where flora and fauna have begun to mutate, The Seeds is also a story of love beyond race and gender, and of the resilience of both human and animal kind.

The creator of CHEW and giant monsters – what more could we want. This series is intended for mature readers

“Poor Ryan DeLuca didn’t buy enough beer for his party, and while he was out on a beer run his idiot buddies busted out some mystical arcana and performed a summoning ceremony-a ceremony that summoned a giant monster from hell!

Join multiple Eisner-winning writer JOHN LAYMAN (CHEW) and Eisner-nominated artist NICK PITARRA (THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS), along with soon-to-be-nominated-for-best-colorist MICHAEL GARLAND (THE MANHATTAN PROJECTS) for an eye-popping, face-melting, reality-defying, nonstop rush of pure adrenaline.

stevenuniverseharmony1

Title: Steven Universe: Harmony

Publisher: Boom! Studios

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: S.M. Vidaurri and Mollie Rose. Cover by Marguerite Sauvage. Variant Covers By Savanna Ganucheau and Veronica Fish.

Steven Universe ranks as one of the great cartoons of recent years. This comic continues the adventures of Steven and the Gems.

“MULTIPLE MAN HEADS TO THE FUTURE…TO TELL HIMSELF NOT TO GO TO THE PAST AGAIN

JAMIE MADROX – your weird friend’s favorite X-MAN – is escorted through time by his dangerous new allies!

But what he finds in the future is something that rattles Jamie to his very core. And he doesn’t rattle easily.

Guest-starring the five greatest mutants of all time – MADROX, MADROX, MADROX, MADROX and MADROX!”

immortalhulk4

Title: The Immortal Hulk

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 4

Creative Team: Al Ewing and Joe Bennett. Cover by Alex Ross. Variant Cover By Arthur Adams.

Al Ewing is one of the best writers in comics at the moment. The work he is doing on The Immortal Hulk is some of his best. Four issues in and this is looking to be one of the great runs for the character. Jump in now and see what you’ve been missing. The variant cover by Arthur Adams is worth seeking out – his Hulk is phenomenal.

“Walter Langkowski is an ex-football star, a space diplomat and a beloved super hero. Langkowski is charming, healthy and outgoing. Walter Langkowski is the opposite of Bruce Banner.

And Walter Langkowski is going to die today, because he went looking for Banner…

…and found the IMMORTAL HULK.”
