This week’s show was all about our favourite and most noteworthy things in 2018:
Phil perused through his library to find his books of 2018 and also picked a few Films and TV shows for your consideration:
Books
The Psychology of Time Travel by Kate Mascarenhas – A really interesting novel on the premise of what time travel would do to us as a society, wrapped in a locked room mystery.
Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers – Really great space opera, a little bit Star Trek, a little bit firefly, with great characters written with love.
Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente – Need we say more than… …What if Eurovision but in space?
Film
Runner Up
Crazy Rich Asians – a great, fun rom-com and with a fantastic performance from the scene stealing Michelle Yeoh.
Film of the Year
One of Phil’s favourite Marvel movie is 2018s Black Panther. The female cast are the all stars of a movie that felt within but stand alone from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A special shout-out to Michael ‘Bae’ Jordan who’s Killmonger gave us a villain with a purpose.
TV
Runner Up
American Horror Story – Apocalypse: Ryan Murphy’s ongoing stories have a special place in Phil’s heart. Good silly fun with a 70’s inspiration.
TV of the Year
The Sense8 Finale was definitely one for the fans and giving the ending that was deserved, giving a thoughtful ending to the characters.
