New Comic Book Day with The Dreaming.
Time it head out to the new look Worlds Apart Birmingham (formerly Nostalgia & Comics) to grab yourself some comics. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks of the comics available today from your local comic book store including The Dreaming and DCeased. Plus a round up of other regular comics you should be reading.
Title: The Dreaming
Publisher: Vertigo/DC
Issue No.: 9
Creative Team: Simon Spurrier – Writer : Bilquis Evely – Artist : Yanick Paquette – Cover Artist
After two marvellous fill in issues by Abigail Larson, Bilquis Evely is back at the drawing board for this issue. Her art and Simon’s words have completely captured all that was great about The Sandman. If you were a fan of the original book then this series is well worth your time. I’ve loved every issue so far and hope it continues exploring the unseen corners of the Endless Universe.
From the Publisher:
“Chapter 9: “Entrances and Reflections.”
It seeks him here, it seeks him there,
The nightmare seeks him everywhere.
Is he in faerie, or among damned screams…?
That doomed, elusive Lord of Dreams…“
Title: DCeased
Publisher: DC
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Tom Taylor – Writer : James Harren – Artist : Stefano Gaudino – Artist : Trevor Hairsine – Artist & Variant Cover Artist : Greg Capullo – Cover Artist : Tomeu Morey, David Finch, Ben Oliver, Sajad Shah, Rodolfo Migliari, Francesco Mattina, Clayton Crain, Greg Horn, Lucio Parrillo, Mico Suayan, Jay Anacleto, Arthur Suydam, Shannon Maer, Yasmine Putri, Inhyuk Lee, Lee JeeHyung, Dan Quintana, John Giang – Variant Cover Artists
I wondered when DC would take a bite of the Marvel Zombies apple. Today we get to find out what happens when the DC heroes are faced with a zombie-like apocalypse. I’m hoping we get some good horror atmosphere and from the previews I’ve seen it appears we will. It’s great to see Trevor Hairsine working on a new book and it’ll be interesting to see how he works with Harren and Gaudino. And who could resist than pun of a title!
From the Publisher:
““I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was Death, and Hades was following close behind him.”—Revelation 6:8
A mysterious techno-virus has been released on Earth, infecting 600 million people and turning them instantly into violent, monstrous engines of destruction.
The heroes of the DCU are caught completely unprepared for a pandemic of this magnitude and struggle to save their loved ones first…but what happens to the World’s Greatest Heroes if the world ends?
New York Times best-selling writer Tom Taylor (INJUSTICE) returns with a terrifying new tale and is joined by artists Trevor Hairsine (LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT) and Stefano Gaudiano (The Walking Dead).“

Also out this week are new issues from comics I recommend you start picking up including The Six Million Dollar Man #3, Uncanny X-Men #17, War of the Realms #3, Paper Girls #28 and Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III #1.
