The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Once and Future
Another quiet week on the pull list with two continuing titles making up the list. This week I have two more great books worth checking out in On The Radar – so do give them a try.
In Meanwhile… this week we take a first look at the upcoming new book from Plastic creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Once and Future
Issue: 17
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Kieron Gillen : Art byDan Mora : Coloured by Tamra Bonvillian : Letters by Ed Dukeshire
Genres: Fantasy/Supernatural/Action/Adventure
From the Publisher:
A standoff between Duncan, Galahad, and Lancelot is all that’s preventing the Otherworld and our world from colliding… but only one of them can be the greatest knight and Duncan better hope it’s him. And, of course, there’s a DRAGON.
This modern spin on Arthurian tales has been a delight to read and the art and colouring in this series screams perfection. In this issue it looks like Lancelot and Galahad will have plenty to deal with as a dragon emerges. Just how Duncan and Bridgette are going to get out of this is anyone’s guess and it’ll be fun finding out.
Title: Excalibur
Issue: 19
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Tini Howard : Art by Marcus To : Coloured by Erik Arciniega : Letters by Ariana Maher
Genres: Superhero/Action/Adventure
From the Publisher:
POISONED BY HER OWN VENOM! She didn’t mean anything by it…but what’s a girl without a body supposed to do?
Just look at that cover. Betsy has been dealing with a lot since the events of X of Swords and it looks like her return to our reality will mean she has to finally face her pass with Kwannon. Will the missing Captain survive the encounter, will the Captain Britain Corps and Excalibur be made whole again, will Kwannon get her revenge? Looks like it’s all happening this issue.
On the radar this week some other comics not yet on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Alien #1
Marvel Comics
Written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson : Art by Salvador Larroca : Cover by In-Hyuk Lee
Batman: Black and White #1
DC Comics
Written by Joshua Williamson, Chip Zdarzky, Karl Kerschl, Daniel Warren Johnson & Becky Cloonan : Art by Karl Kerschl, Daniel Warren Johnson, Riley Rossmo, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson & Nick Bradshaw
You Spin Me Right ‘Round
Plastic creators Doug Wagner and Daniel Hillyard return with Eisner Award-winning colorist Dave Stewart for a new dark comedy/horror titled, Vinyl. The six-issue miniseries will launch from Image Comics this June.
When Walter’s best friend, the FBI agent charged with his capture, is kidnapped by a death cult of all-female sunflower farmers, Walter finds himself deep within an underground labyrinth filled with secrets and monsters…but are their monsters more horrific than his?
Perfect for fans of Dexter and Nailbiter, Vinyl is an unsettling tale of psychopaths, sweet love, and a serial killer named Walter.
Vinyl #1 Cover A by Hillyard and Stewart and Cover B by Hillyard and Stewart will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, June 23.
