The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Damn Them All
So, I’m back after a two week absence. Did you miss me? You did miss me, didn’t you? I didn’t notice anything in our socials, wondering what had happened to your regular dose of all that’s best in comics and checking up on me. Anyway, in the Pull List this week we have Comic Of The Week, Damn Them All from BOOM! Studios. Also on the Pull List are the latest issues of X-Terminators from Marvel Comics, Star Trek from IDW Publishing and the first issue of Good Boy: Prodigal Son from Source Point Press. And in our On The Radar selection, we have 2 new comics from Image and IDW Publishing . And in MEANWHILE… Martin Simpson’s epic Viking tale, NORD.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Damn The All
Issue 2
BOOM! Studios
Writer – Simon Spurrier
Artist – Charlie Adlard
Colourist – Sofie Dodgson with Shayne Hannah Cui
Letterer – Jim Campbell
Buy from Comixology – Damn Them All #2 (Link)
Dora, a detective traumatized by the same recent supernatural events as Ellie, is suspicious of the untimely death of Alfie-a man who helped her in desperate times.
As new terrors unfold, the two witness strange changes to the political landscape of Britain: a gibbering madness infecting the population.
Ellie fears the worst, and seeks the only thing she thinks can help.
A demon may be behind what’s happened, one that predates even the Ars Goetia… and isn’t so easy to control…
After reading the first issue I just had to bump Damn Them All up to the main Pull List. This is what I want from a comic and is, in many ways, a continuation of Spurriers’ run on John Constantine: Hellblazer. DC really dropped the ball letting him go from that title, but teaming up here with The Walking Dead artist, Charlie Adlard, we have a new book that really sells the true horror of magic. A great title, I hope you try out too.
X-Terminators
Issue 3
Marvel Comics
Writer – Leah Williams
Artist – Carlos Gomez
Colourist – Bryan Valenza
Letterer – Travis Lanham
Buy on Comixology – X-Terminators #3 (Link)
VAMPIRES, VIOLENCE AND VENGEANCE! Does it count as killing a man when the man in question is already undead? This problem is one the lovely ladies of bombs and blades are going to need to wrestle with as they brutally separate bloodsuckers’ heads from their bodies! Just when you thought the night couldn’t get more bonkers…
Yeah, yeah. Three issues in, and this is the first time the book appears in the Pull List. Not sure why I hadn’t picked this up sooner, but Leah Williams continues to be one of the great X voices. Alison, Tabitha, Laura and Jubilee are a fabulous bunch of characters to hang out with and this book really makes them shine. Full of action and humour with fabulous art, this is a great addition to your collection.
Star Trek
Issue 2
IDW Publishing
Writers – Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing
Artist – Oleg Chudakov
Colourist – Lee Loughridge
Letterer – Clayton Cowles
Buy on Comixology – Star Trek #2 (Link)
Tasked with a mission from the Prophets, Benjamin Sisko enlists the help of an old friend from Qo’noS to track the ship and persons responsible for slaying the gods. From Star Trek: Year Five duo Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly (Batman Beyond, Captain America) and illustrated by Ramon Rosanas (Star Wars), continue the adventure in IDW’s brand-new, flagship Star Trek ongoing series that features fan-favorite characters from every era of Trek!
Another book making the leap to the main Pull List this week is Star Trek. The first issue impressed with its assembling of a most intriguing crew. It’s great to have Ben Sisko back in command and the whole mystery surrounding his return is the a great driving force for this first arc. I’ve really enjoyed previous IDW Star Trek books and I hope that this one continues that tradition.
Good Boy: Prodigal Son
Issue 1
Source Point Press
Writers – Christina Blanch and Garrett Gunn
Artist – Kit Wallis
Letterer – Dave Lentz
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Good Boy: Prodigal Son #1 (Link)
Flint learns the hard way that some oaths are not easily broken.
With his fathers life hanging in the balance, the lost child of Flint Sparks makes his bloodthirsty debut.
Good Boy is back for another run and I can’t wait to see what is in store for Flint. I’ve really loved the last two arcs and I love Kit’s art style. Sometimes you just want to have fun when reading a book and this does just that. If you’ve not yet indulged in the delights of Good Boy, now is the time.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Plush #1
Image Comics
Writer – Doug Wagner
Artists – Rico Renzi and Daniel Hillyard
Letterer – Ed Dukeshire
Buy from Comixology – Plush #1 (Link)
Serial-killing, cannibalistic furries! PLASTIC and VINYL creators DOUG WAGNER & DANIEL HILLYARD are back. This time, they’ve recruited colorist extraordinaire RICO RENZI for their disturbing “neon-horror” spin on fursuit psychopaths and bizarre love.
In PLUSH, Devin Fulcher is coerced into attending his first furry convention. When he accidentally happens upon a group of furries devouring a human, the insanity begins. Do they just want Devin for dinner… or something much more wicked?
Godzilla Rivals vs. Gigan #1
IDW Publishing
Writer – Keith Davidsen
Artist – Yasmin Flores Montanez
Buy on Comixology – Godzilla Rivals vs. Gigan #1 (Link)
The year is 2008. The setting is Seattle. Networked computers and video game consoles have connected millions across the globe in virtual combat… and an insidious intelligence has taken notice. The insectoid Nebulans, would-be conquerors of Earth, have hijacked the MMOs and uploaded the collective fighting techniques and strategy of gamers worldwide directly into the central processing unit of their cyborg champion. What chance does Godzilla have at victory when the vicious opponent Gigan has been augmented by the savagery of all humanity? Written by Keith Davidsen (Reanimator, Evil Ernie) and illustrated by Yasmin Flores Montanez (Goosebumps), the Cyber Age meets the Kaiju Age in this epic Emerald City showdown!
NORD-ick
Despite Twitter being a trash fire since Mr Musk took over, it can still throw up some hidden gems. One such gem is NORD, the new graphic novel from Martin Simpson, which is currently running on Crowdfundr, from Soaring Penguin Press. Soaring Penguin Press is an Eisner and Ignatz Award nominated UK-based graphic novel publisher. I was instantly grabbed by the incredible artwork. This looks absolutely incredible and you should definitely check it out and consider ordering a copy via the campaign. There are also some other great perks up for grabs.
About The Story
A Viking King who has lost EVERYTHING, a devious plot hatched by the trickster God Loki and a quest to defeat Death itself!
To seek these things…head NORTH!
Blurring the line between a graphic novel and a picture book, NORD is a visual tour de force that will take you on an epic journey through myth and fantasy.
As I mentioned, it was the art that sold me on this book so here are a few preview pages to show you just how great it is.
See, beautiful isn’t it. So, with just over a week left (at time this post goes live), get yourself over to the campaign page and grab a copy of this little treasure by clicking on the widget below
