New Comic Book Day including Dead Rabbit, Battlestar Galactica Classic, The Umbrella Academy and Megatomic Battle-Rabbit
Hello again, it’s time for this weeks new comics and we are being overrun by rabbits. Here are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available today from your local comic book store including Dead Rabbit, Battlestar Galactic Classic, The Umbrella Academy and Megatomic Battle-Rabbit.
Title: Dead Rabbit
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Gerry Duggan and John McCrea. Cover By John McCrea. Variant Cover by Dave Johnson.
Gerry writes great comics. John draws great comics. Together they are making amazing comics. John has been teasing us with art from this series for a while and it has looked absolutely stunning. My comic of the week.
From the Publisher:
“Back in the ’90s, DEAD RABBIT was a prolific Boston stick-up man and hoodlum, until he took down one last big score and disappeared. Nobody ever discovered the truth: he retired to be with the love of his life. Now he’s back in the mask to save her, but no one-not his wife, the mafia, or the cops-is happy that he’s out of retirement.
From JOHN McCREA, the artist and co-creator of MYTHIC and Hitman, and GERRY DUGGAN, the writer of ANALOG and Deadpool, comes the action-comedy-drama tale of Martin Dobbs, a.k.a. DEAD RABBIT, the man who says he’s descended from one of the original gangs of New York City. Get on board with the oversized first issue of an all-new ONGOING SERIES for mature readers. ”
Title: Battlestar Galactica Classic
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Issue No.: 0
Creative Team: John Jackson Miller and Daniel HDR. Cover by Sean Chen.
I loved 70s Battlestar Galactica when I was a kid. The Egyptian stylings, the Vipers and Cylon Raiders and the characters. I also loved the Marvel comic series which featured art from the legendary Walt Simonson. Now I can relive those days thanks to this new Galactica series from Dynamite. This cover is just awesome.
From the Publisher:
“Commander Adama and the remnants of humanity discover a second fugitive fleet, fleeing a different mortal enemy. Can the two armadas join forces, making common cause against the dreaded Cylons? And what would success mean for the quest for Earth? New York Times bestselling author and comics writer JOHN JACKSON MILLER (Star Wars, Star Trek, Halo) joins Dynamite for a miniseries timed for Battlestar Galactica’s 40th anniversary year! ”
Title: The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Obilivion
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Gerard Way, Gabriel Bá and Nick Filardi. Cover ByGabriel Bá . Variant Cover by Gabriel Bá.
I’ve loved Gerard Way’s recent work over at DC’s Young Animals line especially Doom Patrol. Here he returns to the first comic series he worked on in 2007 with Gabriel Bá.
From the Publisher:
“Faced with an increasing number of lunatics with superpowers eager to face off with his own wunderkind brood, Sir Reginald Hargreeves developed the ultimate solution …
Now, just a few years after Hargreeves’s death, his Umbrella Academy is scattered. Number Five is a hired gun, Kraken is stalking big game, Rumor is dealing with the wreckage of her marriage, a rotund Spaceboy runs around the streets of Tokyo, Vanya continues her physical therapy after being shot in the head-and no one wants to even mention Seance until issue #2.
With a Netflix series soon to debut, the award-winning and best-selling superhero series returns, stranger than ever-
And their past is coming back to hunt them. ”
Title: Megatomic Battle-Rabbit
Publisher: Fair Sparks Books
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Stu Perrins, Israel Huretas and Dan Rushton. Cover by Israel Huretas.
This one is a little left field but fits perfectly with this weeks unexpected theme. A very different kind of rabbit stars in this comic. I’m a fan of anthropomorphized giant bunny rabbits (Captain Carrot anyone?) and Stu and Israel deliver the goods here. A great comic for fans of all-ages and I highly recommend you seek this one out. You may need to order directly from Fair Spark Books so pop over to their site here – and check out their other books while you’re there.
From the Publisher:
“As Megatomic Battle Rabbit explores the green and blue mud ball planet his ship has helpfully stranded him on, two primitive human creatures, science fiction fan Dexter and his friend Henry, investigate a mysterious blue light that fell from the sky ”
