New Comic Book Day with Death’s Head.
Time to pick up some new comics from Worlds Apart Birmingham (formerly Nostalgia & Comics). These are Geeky Brummie’s picks of the comics available today from your local comic book store including Death’s Head & Power of X.
Title: Death’s Head
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Tini Howard – Writer : Kei Zama – Artist : Felipe Sobreiro : Colorist – Nick Roche – Cover Artist : Mike McKone, Liam Sharp & John McCrea – Variant Cover Artists
Oh, Marvel UK, how I miss you. Way back when Marvel UK was publishing some of the best books Marvel had to offer. The amazing local talent were creating some incredibly memorable characters, many of whom have briefly reappeared in other Marvel comics over the years. Now we are getting a mini series featuring one of the most loved of those characters, freelance peace-keeping agent Death’s Head. I know next to nothing about what will be happening in this series but the talent list has me buzzing that this will be something to remember. Personally I’ll be hunting down the lovely John McCrea variant cover and diving in to it’s pages as soon as I can.
From the Publisher:
“Rising stars Tini Howard & Kei Zama take on Marvel UK’s hottest character, Death’s Head, in a new miniseries!
When a job goes wrong, intergalactic mech merc Death’s Head wakes up half-assembled at a punk show! And if the crowd full of deodorant-eschewing youths wasn’t enough, the Young Avengers show up! Well, half of them anyway. Hulkling and Wiccan face down the best freelance peacekeeping agent in this universe!“
Title: Power of X
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Jonathan Hickman – Writer : R.B. Silva – Artist & Cover Artist : Marte Garcia – Colorist : Gerald Parel, Dustin Weaver, Skottie Young, Stephanie Hans, Adi Granov, Jack Kirby, Mike Huddleston, Mark Brooks , Lucio Parrillo & Joshua Cassara – Variant Cover Artists
Last week the new Hickman scripted era of the X-Men began with House of X. That title will now alternate each week with this book Power of X. It will be interesting to see if this title fills in some of the blanks left by House. Hickman can conjure amazing stories and much like his work on The Avengers I’m totally along for the ride and can’t wait to see what’s in store for our merry mutants.
From the Publisher:
“FEAR THE FUTURE
Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman (INFINITY, NEW AVENGERS, FANTASTIC FOUR) continues his revolutionary new direction for the X-Men. Intertwining with HOUSE OF X, POWERS OF X reveals the secret past, present and future of mutantkind, changing the way you look at every X-Men story before and after. You do not want to miss the next seminal moment in the history of the X-Men!“
Round Up
Also out this week are some other comics I recommend you take a look at including Paper Girls #30, Green Lantern Annual #1, Samurai Jack: Lost Worlds #3, Canto #2 and Ice Cream Man #13.
