Time to pick up some new comics from Worlds Apart Birmingham (formerly Nostalgia & Comics). These are Geeky Brummie’s picks of the comics available today from your local comic book store. Some very cool comics out this week including the latest issue of Dial H For Hero and a fun spin for Spider-Man. Why not bolster your reading list by checking out some of my previous choices in the videos at the bottom of the page.
Title: Dial H For Hero
Publisher: Wonder Comics/DC
Issue No.: 8
Creative Team: Sam Humphries – Writer : Paulina Ganucheau – Artist : Evan Shaner – Cover Artist
While I’ve been sing the praises of its sister title Wonder Twins, Dial H has also been doing what comics do best – telling great stories that the readers can relate to. It wonderful to final give Dial H the coveted comic of the week title. Sam Humphries has been weaving a beautiful little tale within the covers of this book and regular artist Joe Quinones has been having a ball playing with the artistic options the H-Dial universe offers. It’ll be interesting to see how Paulina Ganucheau fills those very large books this month. If you’ve not been sampling the delights the Wonder Comics imprint line has been offering you really are missing out on some of the best comics the medium has to offer.
From the Publisher:
“Summer and Miguel discover a new, dark power of the H-Dial—a power as old as the DC Universe itself! With the future of the entire Multiverse at stake, our heroes must venture once again into the Heroverse and find the Operator before it’s too late!“
Title: Amazing Spider-Man: Full Circle
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Jonathan Hickman, Jason Aaron, Nick Spencer, Al Ewing, Gerry Duggan, Chip Zdarsky & Kelly Thompson – Writers : Mark Bagley, Cameron Stewart, Valerio Schiti & Rachael Stott – Artists : Chris Sprouse, Chris Bachalo, Michael Allred & Greg Smallwood – Artists & Variant Cover Artists : Rod Reis – Cover Artist
A little while back I had a great time with the Kamandi Challenge book at DC. This week Marvel try something similar but in just one comic. Marvel Comics has put together 7 creative teams spanning some of Marvel’s greatest modern comic creators and tasked them with telling a story round-robin style with each creator pairing picking up where the last team left off. Just like in Kamandi the idea is simple: get Spidey out of the last teams denouement, tell your own story whilst resolving at least one plot element, and end on a cliffhanger. Rinse and repeat. The story can and probably will go anywhere and the creatives lined up are amongst my favourites so I can’t wait to see what they put the poor wall-crawler through.
From the Publisher:
“A summons from SHIELD leads Peter Parker into a globe-spanning adventure that will test him as never before, one in which the future of all mankind lies in his gloved, webbed hands! Who is the mysterious prisoner in the steel box who keeps propelling the wall-crawler onward?
Nick Spencer and an all-star team of Marvel’s biggest writers and artists take up the challenge to create the wildest, maddest, most unconventional AMAZING SPIDER-MAN story of all! Guest-starring Nick Fury, Wolverine and Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham!“
Round Up
There are some other great books out today including The Immortal Hulk #25, Second Coming #4, Swamp Thing Giant #1, Count Crowley: Reluctant Monster Hunter #1 and Kaijumax: Volume 5 #1. All of these are well worth picking up if you haven’t already.
