New Comic Book Day with Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds.
Time to pick up some new comics from Worlds Apart Birmingham (formerly Nostalgia & Comics). These are Geeky Brummie’s picks of the comics available today from your local comic book store including Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds, House of X and Megatomic Battle Rabbit.
Title: Doom Patrol: Weigh of the Worlds
Publisher: DC’s Young Animal
Issue No.: 2
Creative Team: Gerard Way & Jeremy Lambert – Writers : James Harvey – Artist & Cover Artist : Nick Derington – Variant Cover Artist
I love this book. I’ve loved the Doom Patrol for a good few years and this has put the team firmly back where they belong. The whole DC’s Young Animal team are doing a tremendous job with these books and I urge you to pick them up. The story and art perfectly compliment each other (even though I’m disappointed Nick Derington is supplying covers only this time around) and I hope that the team continues to stick around after this story arc comes to a close.
From the Publisher:
“It is a time of great upheaval as Cliff transforms, Larry gives birth, Casey babysits—and the Doom Patrol becomes embroiled in the divorce proceedings of feuding cosmic entities.“
Title: House of X
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 2
Creative Team: Jonathan Hickman – Writer : Pepe Larraz – Artist, Cover Artist & Variant Cover Artist : Sara Pichelli, Mahmud Asrar, John Tyler Christopher, Skottie Young & Yasmine Putri – Variant Cover Artists
I have no idea where Hickman is going with this. I have my suspicions (mainly that Professor X isn’t who he appears to be) and this book has piqued my interest enough that I’m going to be picking up the complete series. If you’ve drifted away from the X-Verse over the years, now is probably the best time to jump back in.
From the Publisher:
“Learn the truth about one of the X-Men’s closest allies…and then begin the fight for the future of mutantkind! Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman (AVENGERS, SECRET WARS, FANTASTIC FOUR) continues reshaping the X-Men’s world with Marvel Young Gun artist Pepe Larraz (EXTERMINATION, AVENGERS)!“
Title: Megatomic Battle-Rabbit
Publisher: Fair Sparks Books
Issue No.: 4
Creative Team: Stu Perrins – Writer : Israel Huretas and Dan Rushton – Artists : Israel Huretas – Cover Artist
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Stu Perrins, writer of this fun little book at Not Another Comic Con this weekend. This week sees the release of the fourth and final issue of Megatomic Battle Rabbit so if you want to support some great local talent ask your comic shop if they have a copy. If your local store doesn’t have any then you can order directly from Fair Spark Books by popping over to their site here – and why not check out their other books while you’re there.
From the Publisher:
“Facing a ticking clock, MEGATOMIC BATTLE RABBIT’s life is on the line when captured by militant government agents with a grudge against anything alien. Will DEXTER and HENRY be able to pull through for their furry friend and save the day? Find out in this epic conclusion to our beloved four-part series.“
Round Up
Also out this week are some other comics I recommend you take a look at including The Dreaming #12, The Immortal Hulk #22, Future Foundation #1, Section Zero #5 and DCeased #4.
