New Comic Book Day with Doomsday Clock.
Our pick of the week is a series I didn’t think would work in this weeks new comic book day. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics that will be available today from your local comic book store including Doomsday Clock, Ronin Island and The Six Million Dollar Man. Plus a round up of other regular comics you should be reading.
Title: DOOMSDAY CLOCK
Publisher: DC Comics
Issue No.: 9
Creative Team: Geoff Johns – Writer : Gary Frank – Artist, Cover Artist, Variant Cover Artist
When the idea of Doomsday Clock first raised it’s head in DC Rebirth I reacted less than favourably. But now 9 issues in to the title I have been won over by a comic that pays tribute to the original Watchmen series and tells its own intriguing and compelling story. Gary Franks artwork is superb and one of the reasons this series works so well.
From the Publisher:
“The critically acclaimed series by master storytellers Geoff Johns and Gary Frank reaches its most shocking chapter yet when the DC Universe collides with its greatest threat: Dr. Manhattan. But nothing is hidden from Manhattan, and the secrets of the past, present and future will rock the very foundation of the DC Universe.“
Title: RONIN ISLAND
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Greg Pak – Creator, Writer : Giannis Milonogiannis – Creator, Artist, Cover Artist : Irma Kniivila – Colorist
BOOM! Studios is putting out a lot of great books and it’s good to see some new creator owned series appear alongside their licensed titles. I’m all for a title featuring samurai and demon hordes.
From the Publisher:
“After a mysterious attack wipes out the major cities of 19th century Japan, Korea, and China, survivors from all three lands find refuge on a hidden island and build a new society.
Hana, the orphaned daughter of Korean peasants, and Kenichi, son of a great samurai leader, have little in common except for a mutual disdain for the other. But these young warriors will have to work together when an army invades the island with shocking news: there is a new Shogun and the Island is expected to pay fealty in exchange for protection from a new enemy…a mutated horde that threatens to wipe out all humanity.”
Title: THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN
Publisher: Dynamite Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Christopher Hastings – Writer : David Hahn – Artist : Michael Walsh – Cover Artist : Francesco Francavilla & Denis Medri – Variant Cover Artists
Steve Austin is back! Great to see Dynamite continue its run of retro inspired heroes. If previous titles are any indication we should be in for a fun ride.
From the Publisher:
“CHRISTOPHER HASTINGS (The Unbelievable Gwenpool! Secret Agent Deadpool! Adventure Time! I Am Groot!) and DAVID HAHN (Batman ’66! Bombshells: United!) proudly present a story from a time when there wasn’t internet, but there WERE cyborgs! It’s the 1970s. Things are going great. Steve Austen (used to be an astronaut, now has robo-parts & a laser eye) heads to Japan to help Secret Agent Niko Abe stop a madman with missiles. Steve figures, no sweat. But then?sweat. How’s Steve going to complete his mission, when his fancy $6,000,000 body starts (DRASTICALLY) depreciating in value!?”
