These are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics that will be available today from your local comic book store including Female Furies, Uncanny X-Men and a Superman 100 Page Spectacular. Plus a round up of other regular comics you should be reading.
Title: FEMALE FURIES
Publisher: DC Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Cecil Castellucci – >Writer : Adriana Melo – Artist : Mitch Gerads – Cover Artist : Francesco Mattina – Variant Cover Artist
Mister Miracle was one of the best comics released last year. His story isn’t continuing but his wife is back in a new mini-series from DC. The Fourth World comics created by Jack Kirby features some of the finest comics characters ever created and chances are you haven’t heard of most of them. Put that right by diving into this series which looks set to continue putting the spotlight on this wonderful cast of characters.
From the Publisher:
“All their lives the Female Furies have been raised to be the meanest, most cunning and most ruthless fighting force on all of Apokolips. So why are Granny Goodness’ girls left behind every time the men go to war? With the might of New Genesis hanging over the planet, and the Forever People making mincemeat out of Darkseid’s army, Granny thinks it’s about time that changed.
And so, Big Barda, Aurelie, Mad Harriet, Lashina, Bernadeth and Stompa set out to beat the boys at their own game. Little do they know the game is rigged—and one accidental murder could spell disaster for them all!
FEMALE FURIES is an exciting new miniseries starring some of Jack Kirby’s coolest Fourth World characters by the writer of SHADE, THE CHANGING GIRL and the artist of PLASTIC MAN!”
Title: UNCANNY X-MEN
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 11
Creative Team: Matthew Rosenberg – Writer : Salvador Larroca – Artist, Cover Artist : Scott Williams, Rob Liefeld, Ron Lim, Lewis LaRosa, In-Hyuk Lee, Eduard Petrovich & Skan Srisuwan – Variant Cover Artists
Some heroes just won’t stay down. Logan has recently returned from the grave and now he is joined by the oldest Summers brother. When reading the early X-Men comics I really liked Scott but in recent years the Marvel writers decided to turn him in to a bit of a jerk. Now he’s back and it looks like Matthew Rosenberg is giving us back the sensitive, caring Cyclops we knew and loved. The futures is looking bright for this X-Man.
From the Publisher:
“After the devastating events of “X-Men Disassembled,” it falls to Cyclops to rebuild the X-Men in the face of overwhelming hatred. Thankfully, he’s not the only X-Man to have just returned from oblivion. Scott and Logan are together again, and they are mutantkind’s only hope. Writer Matthew Rosenberg and returning superstar X-Artist Salvador Larroca lead the X-Men into their darkest hour…and beyond!”
Title: SUPERMAN 100-PAGE SUPER-SPECTACULAR
Publisher: DC Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Marv Wolfman – Writer : Claudio Castellini – Artist
Marv Wolfman is responsible for some of the best comics ever written and if he says this is the best Superman story he’s ever done then it’s going to be a belter. This issue pulls together a story originally intended for publication in the comic Superman Confidential but did not make it to print before that series was cancelled. This is sure to be one story you shouldn’t miss.
From the Publisher:
“”This is the best Superman story I’ve ever written.” So says living legend Marv Wolfman, and when you’ve written hundreds of Superman stories as he has, it means a great deal. This gem of a tale—written and drawn from 2006-2009 for the SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL series—explodes from the DC archives as a triumphant tale of Clark Kent’s fateful first days in Metropolis, which were far from easy. His early failures almost ensured there would never be a hero called Superman. Powerful writing and stunning art combine to conjure an inspiring story that needed to be published, one you will never forget, from a pair of master storytellers.”
