Now on with the comics…
Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Issue 4
BOOM! Studios/IDW Publishing
Writer – Cullen Bunn
Artist – Freddie Williams II
Buy from Comixology – Godzilla vs. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #4 (Link)
Godzilla and the Megazord team up to battle a host of giant monsters-some from the world of the Power Rangers, some from Godzilla’s world! Meanwhile, the Green Ranger attempts a daring escape from the clutches of Rita! And the most terrifying challenge yet from Godzilla’s greatest foe is about to erupt into a full-blown kaiju free-for-all!
This book does what comics should, entertain. This comic has been a delight for fans of both franchises and the art by Williams II has been some of the best work I’ve seen in a Godzilla book. With only one issue left to go, there is still time for some epic battles and Kalju and Zords clash. Can it be too much to hope, that a sequel might be in the works?
Skybound Presents: Afterschool
Issue 2
Image Comics
Writers – Kate Herron and Briony Redman
Artist – Leila Leiz
Buy on Comixology – Skybound Presents: Afterschool #2 (Link)
Skybound’s new horror anthology returns to teach those teens a lesson with another chilling standalone story.
In this issue, KATE HERRON (Marvel Studios’ Loki), BRIONY REDMAN, and LEILA LEIZ present a horrifying tale soaked in blood and…feathers?
“Scratches to mark you, a feather to warn you, then it comes…”
According to urban legend, if you try to get rid of your baby, a monstrous stork will force you to keep it. But surely that can’t be true, can it? Leah and her friends are about to find out about just how true it is in…The Storkening!
Issue one of this book was slipped into my Pull by my local comic shop. I liked the creators, so gave it a shot and I’m glad I did. As a fan of anthology books, and especially horror ones, this really hits the spot. This issue teams up another set of incredible creators to craft a tale of urban horror. Recommended.
Skybound X
Issue 25
Image Comics
Writers – Robert Kirkman, Joshua Williamson, Mac Smith and Lorenzo De Felici
Artists – Lorenzo De Felici, Mac Smith, Ryan Ottley and Andrei Bressan
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Skybound X #25 (Link)
IMAGES OF TOMORROW! Skybound’s hit anthology series returns to share the debut of FOUR all-new upcoming comic launches TODAY! From the pages of INVINCIBLE comes BATTLE BEAST, by co-creators ROBERT KIRKMAN (THE WALKING DEAD, FIREPOWER) and RYAN OTTLEY (Hulk)! The new horror epic DARK RIDE reunites JOSHUA WILLIAMSON (Batman) and ANDREI BRESSAN, the acclaimed team behind BIRTHRIGHT. The first appearance of the savage and beautiful KROMA by writer/artist LORENZO DE FELICI (OBLIVION SONG)! Also, when all of humanity dies, the animals battle for survival in the post-apocalyptic world of SCURRY by MAC SMITH.
Did i miss an issue? Skybound X is back with issue 25 and a whole new set of tales. The big one this issue is the story of Battle Beast, from the pages of Invincible, which reunites the legendary Invincible team of Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley. But for me the standout story is looking to be Scurry by Mac Smith, which just looks incredible.
Jurassic League
Issue 3
DC Comics
Writers – Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist – Rafael Garres
Colourist- Mike Spicer
Letterer – Ferran Delgado
Buy on Comixology – Jurassic League #3 (Link)
With Wonderdon entering the fray to help Batsaur and Supersaur defeat Brontozarro, the Jurassic League has officially formed! But Darkseid’s mysterious machinations continue to reveal themselves, and this Triassic trinity might not be enough to stop him. Luckily a heroic hadrosaur has joined the battle. Enter the Green Torch!
I’ve bumped this one up on to the main Pull List, because it’s pure, unadulterated nonsense. It’s a shame it’s not being drawn by DWJ, as I would have loved to see his work continue on to the interiors, but the artists he’s teamed up with have captured, his wild and crazy style. If you’re looking for a big, fun, dumb comic, you can’t go wrong with this one.
Knights of X
Issue 4
Marvel Comics
Writer – Tini Howard
Artist – Bob Quinn
Colourist – Erick Arciniega
Letterer – Ariana Maher
Buy on Comixology – Knights of X #4 (Link)
BRAVE THROUGH THE DARKNESS! With Arthur and his army on their heels, all but one of the Knights of X have made it to Mercator—the province void of light. But all isn’t what it seems. Will Betsy and her team be able to overcome the darkness and find the Siege Perilous?
I wonder where Otherworld, Saturnyne, Merlin and Roma will be after this story ends. Tini seems to have plans for them all, but I’m not sure how much Marvel are willing to play ball. I’m enjoying the series and I want to see more of Otherworld, it’s denizens and perhaps a new iteration of Excalibur, but there seems to be a lot for this series to do with only one issue left in this run.
New Fantastic Four
Issue 2
Marvel Comics
Writer – Peter David
Artist – Alan Robinson
Colourist – Mike Spicer
Buy on Comixology – New Fantastic Four #2 (Link)
Wolverine, the Hulk, Ghost Rider and Spider-Man have reunited to investigate a surge of violence in Las Vegas. With demonic masterminds pulling the strings, they’re going to need some extra help… Enter the Human Torch! But by the end of this issue, one member of the team will turn traitor! This brand-new tale set in a classic era of Marvel history hurdles forward—with even more battles, secrets revealed and surprise guest stars!
Retro. Some times I just don’t understand Marvel. With this, and the recent Silver Surfer series, they are putting out books that recall another age, and then they struggle to capitalise on the love for their characters, unless there is a Disney+ show to go with it, and sometimes they don’t even do that (see my next book). This book, like the Surfer one is a throwback to a time when you could have some fun with a story and David and Robinson are bringing their A game. Just pick it up and enjoy.
She-Hulk
Issue 5
Marvel Comics
Writer – Rainbow Rowell
Artist – Luca Maresca
Colourist – Rico Renzi
Letterer – Joe Caramagna
Buy on Comixology – She-Hulk #5 (Link)
Jen Walters has been around since 1979 but this issue holds a first for her. The mysterious villains surely don’t care and plan on destroying her and Jack Of Hearts.
LEGACY #168
Issue 5 of 7 is here. With a Disney+ show due to launch soon, you’d think Marvel would have more faith in an ongoing She-Hulk Series. This one has been a blast. Rowell really get’s Jennifer, bring her back to basics, and she is doing a bang up job of re-establishing Jack of Hearts in the Marvel Universe. But just a momentum gets going we are nearly at the end. I hope we see more of this pairing soon.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Adventure in the 18th Century
Those wonderful folks at Time Bomb Comics are currently running their the pre-order campaign for the latest perfect-bound, volume of the Flintlock anthology series set entirely in the 18th Century. Flintlock Book Six will be the biggest yet at 68 pages. As this is the final book in the series they are going out with a bang, and offering some incredible rewards, including a one of a kind keepsake books to store your collection.
Tell Me All About It
Flintlock is a regular comics anthology series with a difference – each book tells stories featuring a unique range of genuinely diverse characters in an Eighteenth Century shared historical timeline. This period (1701 to 1800) was the era of highwaymen, pirates, samurai, exploration and upheaval. Those one hundred years encompassed some of the most tumultuous changes in world history involving some of the richest personalities, and is one of the inspirations for the stories and characters that feature in Flintlock.
This latest volume will be 68 pages, perfect bound, with a full colour cardstock cover and black and white interiors, with three stories behind a stunning cover by artist Gareth Sleightholme! Gareth is also one of the interior artists, along with Carlos Angeli and James Gray, with Rob Jones lettering throughout.
Since Book One, the 1750s exploits of highwayman Lady Flintlock have surprised and thrilled, but following the shocking events of the previous chapter it’s now time for her tale to come to a conclusion. Expect drama, intrigue, action and despair in this extra length 28 page story finale. Even better, the fabulous Gareth Sleightholme once again provides the astonishing artwork!
