New Comic Book Day including Head Looper, Cemetery Beach, Mage: The Hero Denied and Hellboy Winter Special.
More personal favourites and a fantastic homage cover in this weeks new comics. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available today from your local comic book store including Head Lopper, Cemetery Beach, Mage: The Hero Denied and Hellboy Winter Special.
Title: Head Lopper
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 10
Creative Team: Writer, Art and Cover – Andrew MacLean
It may only come out quarterly but it’s worth the wait. Andrew MacLean is doing an amazing job of conjuring up a new and exciting fantasy world. Filled with interesting characters and plots to match this series just gets better and better.
From the Publisher:
“The egg is cracking and war looms imminent over Venoriah. While Arlen and The Swords hold the wall, Norgal looks for answers in all the wrong places. “
Title: Cemetery Beach
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 4
Creative Team: Writer – Warren Ellis : Art & Cover – Jason Howard
Warren Ellis writes great comics and this is no exception. Working here with Jason Howard this is a thrill ride of a comic. What really sells me on this issue is the fantastic Batman: The Animated Series homage cover. Go seek it out – you’ll be hooked.
From the Publisher:
“Force recon expert Mike Blackburn has promised to get dissident Grace Moody out of a secret, private space colony and back to Earth to reveal what happened here a century ago. The oldest people in the colony are about to show they can still kill. “
Title: Mage: The Hero Denied
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 14
Creative Team: Writer, Art & Cover – Matt Wagner
We are nearly at the end. I’ve been following the story of Kevin Matchstick from the very beginning and I’m very sad it’s coming to a close. As Kevin’s life has changed so has mine. Our stories have run in strangely parallel lines – mine, of course, with less supernatural stuff. Matt Wagner is a comics legend and the Mage saga is testament to that.
From the Publisher:
“Inside the Umbra Sprite’s stronghold, Kevin Matchstick must face an onslaught of opposition as he tries to rescue his family. While dark forces threaten to overwhelm Magda and Hugo, the arrival of an unexpected presence sows discord among the remaining Gracklethorns. Will The Pendragon’s power be enough to face the challenges ahead?
Only one more issue remains in the conclusion of this epic saga! “
Title: Hellboy Winter Special
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Writers – Mike Mignola, Fábio Moon and Tonci Zonjic : Art – Gabriel Bá, Ben Stenbeck and Tonci Zonjic : Cover – Gabriel Bá
More Hellboy. For Winter. What else do you need?
From the Publisher:
“Three wintry tales featuring a Mike Mignola and Ben Stenbeck team-up for a New Year’s Eve séance gone wrong when Hellboy visits a family’s English home, Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá revisit B.P.R.D.: Vampire with a new tie-in story, and Tonci Zonjic returns to write and draw Lobster Johnson. “
