New Comic Book Day including X-Men Grand Design
It’s Wednesday so that must mean it’s new comic book day so here are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available from your local comic book store including the latest issue of X-Men Grand Design.
Title: X-Men Grand Design : Second Genesis
Publisher: Marvel
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Ed Piskor. Cover by Ed Piskor. Variant Cover by Ed Piskor.
The first two issues of Ed Piskor’s retelling of X-Men history were some of the best comics I’ve read. The design, art and storytelling reminded me why I loved these characters so much. This issue picks up with the formation of the All-New X-Men and you should not miss it.
“It’s ALL-NEW and ALL-DIFFERENT! Witness Wolverine, Thunderbird, Colossus, Storm and Sunfire suit up as X-Men for the very first time all over again! All through the lens of comics auteur ED PISKOR, who lovingly researches, writes, pencils, inks, colors and letters every page just for you!
The second act of X-MEN GRAND DESIGN begins now!”
Title: Marvel Two-In-One
Publisher: Marvel
Issue No.: 8
Creative Team: Chip Zdarsky and Paco Medina. Cover by Jay Anacleto.
This series is building to the return of the Fantastic Four to the Marvel Universe. The interplay between Ben and Johnny has been wonderful, as they come to terms with the apparent loss of Reed, Sue and the rest of their family. A comic about family and loss told with style and heart.
“NEXT OF KIN CONTINUES!
A new life in a new town on a strange world. Everything has changed for the broken people once known as BEN GRIMM and JOHNNY STORM. But can they repair things before one of their oldest villains puts the nail in the coffin of THE FANTASTIC FOUR?”
Title: Multiple Man
Publisher: Marvel
Issue No.: 2
Creative Team: Matthew Rosenberg and Andy McDonald. Cover by Marcos Martin.
Matthew Rosenberg is doing great things across his X-Men books. He is taking some of my favourite mutants and making other people fall in love with them. If you’ve never heard of Jamie Madrox before this series is the perfect introduction.
“MULTIPLE MAN HEADS TO THE FUTURE…TO TELL HIMSELF NOT TO GO TO THE PAST AGAIN
JAMIE MADROX – your weird friend’s favorite X-MAN – is escorted through time by his dangerous new allies!
But what he finds in the future is something that rattles Jamie to his very core. And he doesn’t rattle easily.
Guest-starring the five greatest mutants of all time – MADROX, MADROX, MADROX, MADROX and MADROX!”
Title: Justice League Dark
Publisher: DC
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martinez and Raul Fernandez. Cover by Alvaro Martinez and Raul Fernandez. Variant Covers By Gregg Capullo and Jonathan Glapion.
Interesting things are happening for the Justice League. This new dark team is made up of Wonder Woman, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat and Detective Chimp. Detective Chimp alone makes this book a must read.
“From the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE: NO JUSTICE! Earth’s magic once belonged to them. Now they want the magic back. But who exactly are they? It’s up to the new Justice League Dark to find out and stop this nightmarish new threat at all costs! After the events of NO JUSTICE, team leader Wonder Woman guides the misfit magic mix of Zatanna, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat and Detective Chimp against enemies too fantastic even for the Justice League. Plus, what awful things are coming through the Tree of Wonder? Dark days ahead…”
We also recommend the following collection from archives released this week –
Title: The New Teen Titans HC Omnibus Vol.3
Publisher: DC
Creative Team: Marv Wolfman, George Perez, Dan Jurgens and Carmine Infantino. Cover By George Perez.
If you were intrigued by the recent SDCC trailer for Titans then this is a great way of getting to know the characters. This series is comics perfection and features truly outstanding story telling. This is how the Titans should look and feel and Robin is a badass without the need for cursing.
“In this third massive collection of the hit 1980s series, now back in print, the team battles the villainy of H.I.V.E., faces the evil Dr. Light, witnesses the trial of Deathstroke, and tries to rescue the dark hero known as Raven from her own father, Trigon.
Collects TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #42-68, THE NEW TEEN TITANS (second series) #1-9 and TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS ANNUAL #3.”
