New Comic Book Day with The Dreaming.
It’s new comic book day time. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics that will be available today from your local comic book store including The Dreaming, Curse Words, Outer Darkness and Captain Marvel.
Title: THE DREAMING
Publisher: DC Comics
Issue No.: 5
Creative Team: Simon Spurrier – Writer : Bilquis Evely – Artist : Jae Lee – Cover Artist
The Sandman was one of the greatest comics ever published. Returning to the world created by Neil Gaiman was always going to be a risky endeavour but Simon Spurrier and Bilquis Evely have recaptured the magic of the original. Beautifully written and illustrated this series brings back characters we know and love and takes them somewhere new and exciting. Add it to your pull list today.
From the Publisher:
“In the garden of Destiny, eyes that do not see run across paper that was never a tree. The oldest of the Endless is reading about a librarian losing his mind. About a monstress losing her soul. About a kingdom losing its king. The Dreaming is bleeding color. The grim judge tightens his grip. And in the realm of Destruction, endings are spun into beginnings… “
Title: CURSE WORDS
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 19
Creative Team: Charles Soule – Writer : Ryan Browne – Artist, Cover Artist, Variant Cover Artist
What if Doctor Strange was a hipster. Curse Words is all that and more. Fun, clever and filled with memorable characters, Curse Words is a wonderful dose of comics magic.
From the Publisher:
““THEM BLUE WIZARD BLUES,” Part Four Jacques Zacques strikes! During his time in our world, Wizord has made some pretty powerful people pretty angry. It’s time for them to get their due, via a surprise attack. A truly action-packed installment of the ongoing gonzo fantasy, offered with another “magical” variant cover! “
Title: OUTER DARKNESS
Publisher: Image
Issue No.: 3
Creative Team: John Layman – Writer : Afu Chan – Artist, Cover Artist
If you’re a fan of Event Horizon or Alien you’ll love Outer Darkness. This is horror/sci-fi at its best. Great writing from Layman is matched with perfect art by Chan. Three issues in and I’m hooked.
From the Publisher:
“An away mission to a mysterious asteroid leads to the death of a beloved crewman. Too bad death is only the beginning for the crew of The Charon… “
Title: CAPTAIN MARVEL
Publisher: Marvel
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Kelly Thompson – Writer : Carmen Carnero – Artist : Tamra Bonvillain – Colorist : Amanda Conner – Cover Artist : Paul Mounts – Cover Artist : Adam Hughes, Stephanie Hans, Stanley Lau, Alex Ross, Joe Quesada, J. Scott Campbell, Mark Brooks, Jay Anacleto, David Nakayama and Lauren Tsai – Variant Cover Artists
With her film just over the horizon, Marvel is relaunching Captain Marvel. Kelly Thompson has handled the character brilliantly in the past and Carmen Carnero’s art looks stunning. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Carol Danvers as she joins the MCU A List.
From the Publisher:
“ALL THE STARS ALIGN AS KELLY THOMPSON AND CARMEN CARNERO TAKE ON MARVEL’S PREMIER FEMALE SUPER HERO!
As Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers has spent months in space protecting Earth from alien threats big and small, but now it’s time for Earth’s mightiest hero to come home. New York City has never looked so good. But every re-entry comes with the unexpected, and Carol is about to hit a whole lot of unexpected. It’s a fresh start and an oversized, star-studded welcome home for a hero who’s been punching the glass ceiling since the 1970s — and just in time for the first female-led film from Marvel Studios! The next 50 years of Captain Marvel starts here! “
