The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Billionaire Island.
Only a few comics of note sneaking into stores this week so we’ll be taking a look at the latest issue of Billionaire Island, All-America Comix and Gun Land.
The all new section Meanwhile also continues this week.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Billionaire Island

From the Publisher:
Like an action movie come to life, Trent storms onto Billionaire Island in search of answers – and he’s willing to get them anyway he can. Meanwhile, Shelly is after answers of her own…but will she regret getting them? The infiltration of Billionaire Island is on! Every AHOY comic also features extra prose stories and illustrations. Featuring a variant cover by Darick Robertson (The Boys).
It’s been a while since issue 1 of Billionaire Island hit the stands. Now it’s back and I imagine more relevant than ever following the events of the last 101 days. Ahoy Comics is doing great work allowing creators to publish the books they are passionate about and the dream team of Russell and Pugh in this book is well worth seeking out.
Title: All-America Comix
Issue: One Shot
Publisher: Image Comics
-
-
-
- Written by Joe Casey : Art by Dustin Nguyen : Coloured by Sonia Harris : Lettered by Rus Wotton
-
-
- Genres : Superhero
From the Publisher:
Her last name is VASQUEZ! Her first name…says it all! And when confronted with the hidden secret of the universe, you won’t believe the cosmic truth she uncovers! Brought to you by the Wildcats Version 3.0 team of JOE CASEY and DUSTIN NGUYEN-reunited for the first time in fifteen years!
This book has a long and convoluted history but finally makes it to stores this week. Is it a parody? I don’t know. Is it worth reading? Probably. I don’t really know much about this book as previews were non-existent but I think given the talent involved it will be worth picking up.
Title: Gun Land
Issue: 1
Publisher: Magnetic Press
-
-
-
- Written by Capitan Artiglio : Art by Capitan Artiglio
-
-
From the Publisher:
The Doolin’ Brothers are on the run from a heist gone sour, but their bad luck catches up with them when they regather to strategize. The only thing that could save them from capture by bounty hunters is a quiet young girl with a knack for sharpshooting…
Okay. Robots – check. Dinosaurs – check. Cowboys – check. What more do you need to know. Looking like something out of Heavy Metal magazine or the Airtight Garage, this has to go on the must read list.
Al goes BOOM!
I missed this news when it was originally announced earlier last month but BOOM! Studios, who have been putting out some great books recently, announced a brand new series from writer Al Ewing (Immortal Hulk) and artist Simone Di Meo (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) entitled We Only Find Them When They’re Dead. We Only Find Them When They’re Dead follows Captain Malik and his crew on the Vihaan II as they harvest the massive corpses of alien gods to keep the human race afloat, but Malik isn’t settling for just surviving and wants to find a living god.
“WE ONLY FIND THEM WHEN THEY’RE DEAD is a concept I’ve been brewing for some years now, something that merges a few of my favorite things – high-concept action, world-building, quests for the meaning behind existence and heavily metaphorical science fiction – and uses them to create a universe we’re building out into something truly vast, rich and strange. No matter which parts of my work you’ve enjoyed before, there’ll be something here for you to love.” – Al Ewing
“I had been waiting for years to work on my own sci-fi series and Al wrote a story so intense that I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Sci-fi, passion, mystery, and giant gods make these pages an absolute blast to draw.” – Simone Di Meo
We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #1 will feature a regular cover by Di Meo, as well as variant covers by Toni Infante (Champions), Christian Ward (Invisible Kingdom), and fingers-crossed will hit comic shops in September.
It Never Rains…
Netflix has released this lovely new poster for The Umbrella Academy Season 2. The poster features all the members of the Hargreeves family living (or dead) posing with sunglasses with glimpses of their possible futures in the lenses. The Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of the comic book that was created and written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. I really enjoyed Season 1 even thought it steered clear of the weirder aspects of the comic. The series stars Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, the always awesome Robert Sheehan, and Aidan Gallagher and is set to drop on Netflix on 31st July 2020.
Judge Dredd – LIVE?
Not yet convinced that 2020 is the closest we have come to living in Mega-City One. Well you will when Judge Dredd Uprising: The LIVE Experience arrives in 2021. Little Lion Entertainment revolutionised the immersive experiential concept with the Crystal Maze LIVE experiences, when they launched back in 2016. Now with Judge Dredd Uprising: The LIVE Experience Little Lion takes it cutting-edge mix of immersive live theatre, fiendish mental and physical challenges, multi-level problem-solving and stunning world-building to a whole new level.
