The Geeky Brummie Pull List with John Constantine: Hellblazer
It’s another quiet week for comics on my Pull List this week with once again only two books I’ll be picking up. This first book on the list is John Constantine: Hellblazer which is quite simple one of the best books being published right now. My second choice is the latest book from Michael Allred, X-Ray Robot. In Meanwhile… we take a look at some more comic related news stories.
Now on with the comics…

THE WAKE-UP CALL The specter of his older self (and the terrible bargain he made to get another chance at life) has been playing a cat-and-mouse game with John Constantine for months now—but now the game is over, and it’s time to get down to business. Namely, the business of destroying absolutely everything that made that second lease on life worth living…
I cannot believe we are only a few issues away from the end of this series. I will savour each of the issues we have left. I wasn’t sure what this new version of John Constantine would bring to comics. After reading the one-shot that returned John to The Sandman Universe I knew this was the Constantine we need right now. Everything about the book rang true. Si Spurrier absolutely nailed what makes JC the man he is and why we like him as a character, despite his obvious failings. The regular series kept this up and even doubled down on the social commentary. This series has been nothing short of spectacular and deserves to continue with this creative team past issue 12. But if it doesn’t I’ll still have 12 of the best comics I’ve ever read and that is worth having.

After meeting his robotic 277-year-old self, Max learns about the incoming threat of the Ultimate Nihlist, a villain determined to take all life to its “Pre–Big Bang” status, leading Max and the robot to travel through different timelines to protect reality and mankind.
“One of the best cartoonists in all of comics has done it again! X-Ray Robot is another Allred homerun!!” —Brian Michael Bendis
Do I have a clue what’s going on in X-Ray Robot? No, no I do not. But that hasn’t stopped me for being completely onboard with the latest bizarre extravaganza from Mike Allred. This book is fun and beautifully illustrated and is sure to both confuse and beguile me.
Retro Hasbro
Last weekend Hasbro held their Pulsecon event. Alongside a new set of Marvel Legends figures they also announced a new 3 3/4-inch line called Marvel Legends Retro — just like figures were when I was a kid. The six figures being released in the initial wave are Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Panther, Cyclops and Electro. You can check out images of the figures and some of the lovely retro packaging below.
Back BRZRKR Back
After recording a recent Pull List for the podcast Boom! Studios has since announced that the highly-anticipated 12-issue series BRZRKR – by Matt Kindt and co-written Keanu Reeves – has been pushed back four months. Apparently the delay is due to the decision to change artists from the originally-announced Alessandro Vitti to long-time Marvel/DC artist Ron Garney.
To facilitate the change and maintain its high production standards, Boom!! has announced that the in-store date for issue #1 will change to February 17, 2021,” reads the message sent out via Diamond Comic Distributors. “Issue #2 will now ship in March, followed by #3 in May, in accordance with the title’s six-week publication schedule.
BZRKR #1 (of 12) was originally going to hit shelves on October 7th 2020 but will now appear on February 17th 2021. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.
Save Hellblazer
With the collected edition of the first six issues hitting stores early next week, I’d like to remind everyone how magnificent this series is and how we shouldn’t allow DC to cancel it with issue 12.
