The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Strange Adventures
Much busier this week as we have five books vying for the top spot. In a strong week Strange Adventures is our comic of the week but X-Men, New Mutants, Excalibur and We Only Find Them When They’re Dead (WOFTWTD) are all worth adding to your pull list.
In Meanwhile… this week we take a sneak peak at the latest take on classic Marvel characters as the publisher returns to the 90s story of Heroes Reborn.
Now on with the comics…

From the Publisher:
The battle against the Pykkts continues! The Justice League-including Green Lantern, Doctor Fate, Batman, the Flash, Superman, and Wonder Woman-has scattered across the Earth, pushing back the marauders wherever they appear. Even Mr. Terrific takes a break from investigating Adam Strange’s alleged war crimes to land a punch or two in their stupid alien faces. But Adam Strange has made his decision: to save Rann at any price-even if that price is the Earth itself!
There is a lot to like about Strange Adventures. The story is giving itself time to breath as we slowly find out more about what has happened to Adam in his most recent adventure on Rann. This is not the usual pulp adventure. Instead of the Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure this is very much a modern take on the consequences of war. Adam has clearly done things he feels remorse about. But he also wants to protect his family – but could the cost be too great. There is still plenty left to discover in this excellent series and I have faith King, Gerards and Shaner will deliver.

From the Publisher:
QUEEN ELIZABETH III?!? Opportunities and opportunists. Two heads-of-state seek to restore the state of things.
After taking stock of the post X of Swords landscape and bringing back Rachel Summers and Brian Braddock in to the Excalibur fold last issue it’ll be interesting to see where this creative team goes next. This cover seems to indicate all is not well for Betsy Braddock but how will this play out and how will Betsy get back to a team that is grieving for her? This book reads like the classic Claremont book of old and I’m enjoying it so far. Of course I want to see more of Brian and Meggan but I’m beginning to bond with this iteration of the team. I hope it keeps up this standard of storytelling for some time to come.

From the Publisher:
ONCE MORE INTO THE CRUCIBLE! As KARMA and DANI delve deeper into their nightmares, a spider sets his eyes on the most vulnerable of the NEW MUTANTS…Meanwhile, in the Wild Hunt, children play at being adults and prepare for the fight of their lives.
Much like Excalibur this new run of New Mutants has tapped into the love I have for the original team. It’s great to see Karma and Dani centre stage again and Rod Reis is doing an incredible job on the art. The X-books have got back to telling great stories about people we care about and that is why these characters are still going strong.

From the Publisher:
STORM THE EMPIRE! When the Shi’ar Empire asks the X-Men for help, Cyclops, Storm and Marvel Girl answer the call.
Whilst Excalibur and New Mutants are doing interesting things with their characters the main X-Men book continues to explore the effects the formation of the new mutant nation of Krakoa is having on the Marvel Universe. The X of Swords event has shaken this up even further with the introduction of a whole host of new mutants. With Reign of X about to begin there is plenty to look forward to in 2021 for our merry mutants.

From the Publisher:
Destiny has come for the endeavors of the Vihaan II. Malik and Richter face off for the last time and only one will survive. Their uncertain futures will be forever changed by a shattering discovery.
Woah! That’s usually what goes through my head when reading this book. Al and Simone continue to deliver mind blowing, high concept science fiction with every issue. This is a thrilling book and I feel that in single issues may be a little slow going for some readers but for me the way Al ratchets up the interpersonal tension with every new discovery is stunning. I can’t wait for each new issue and that has to be a good sign.
Heroes Reborn Again?
Last week Marvel Comics announced it was bringing back the ’90s storyline Heroes Reborn, this time around it will be a tale of a world without the Avengers from writer Jason Aaron and artist Ed McGuiness.
In the new ‘Heroes Reborn’ the Phoenix Force will destroy and “rebirth” the Earth without its mightiest heroes, with many Marvel characters thrust into totally different, sometimes mashed-up roles and identities as a result.
Welcome to a world where Tony Stark never built an Iron Man armor. Where Thor is a hard-drinking atheist who despises hammers. Where Wakanda is dismissed as a myth. And where Captain America was never found in the ice, because there were no Avengers to find him. Instead this world has always been protected by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the Squadron Supreme of America. And now the Squadron face an attack from some of their fiercest enemies, like Dr. Juggernaut, the Black Skull, the Silver Witch and Thanos with his Infinity Rings,” it continues. “Blade is the one man alive who seems to remember that the entire world has somehow been… reborn. And so begins his search for the cause behind this ominous shift in reality.
See if you can identify which characters appear in these promo images from artist Carlos Pacheco, inkers Rafael Fontirez and Mariano Taibo, and colorist Matt Milla.
