FINAL ISSUE
After his escape to the waking world went terribly awry, Ruin finds himself face to face with his creator, Dream…and Dream is not happy. Is there any force in this world that could stop him from unmaking his most unpredictable creation?
The Dreaming: Waking Hours reaches the end of it’s hugely entertaining first story arc. G. Willow Wilson and Nick Robles have done a great job capturing the feel of The Sandman Universe and bringing Shakespeare back in to the mix has been a joy. The Dreaming has been a blast and its been great fun revisiting the characters and world Neil Gaiman conjured into the world so vividly all those years ago. The title is back in January for a new 2 issue arc with guest-artist Javier Rodriguez.

Adam Strange was right! In this issue guest-starring Batman, the Pykkts have come to Earth, and they plan to claim the planet as their own. Earth’s greatest heroes have faced alien invasions before, but they’re about to learn that the Pykkts are more formidable, more determined, and more deadly than any invading force they’ve faced before. Only Adam Strange has ever defeated them, but it nearly cost him everything-including his own sanity! How did he survive? Mr. Terrific will need to uncover that secret if humanity is going to survive!
Get Tanked
Coming to select comic shops worldwide in April 2021 is Tankers #1 from Bad Idea. The three double-sized issues of dinosaur-battling intensity comes from writer Robert Venditti, artist Juan Jose Ryp, and colorist Jordie Bellaire and will ship bi-monthly.
This black and white preview looks incredible and who doesn’t love flesh shredding dinosaur action.
The CEO of global energy conglomerate Greenleaf Oil has just discovered a terrifying secret: the planet only has a decade or less of petroleum left before it’s gone forever. But he has a plan to make sure his great-great grandchildren can continue to generate maximum shareholder value – and secure his own legacy in the process. Rather than develop a game-changing renewable energy source through the power of corporate innovation, Greenleaf has perfected the next best thing – time travel (duh) – so that a team of six field-rat contractors armed to the teeth in individually customized mech suits can go back to the Cretaceous Period, tweak the trajectory of the meteor that killed the dinosaurs, and give mankind another 500 millennia worth of oil reserves. What could go wrong? Only all of human history, of course – because when Greenleaf’s team of Tankers come home, they’ll discover that not only did the dinosaurs never die out, they’ve kept evolving for another 60 million years…and they’re more pissed off than ever.
Let’s Get Ready To Sable
I’ve been thinking a lot about the old First Comics series, so this came as a very pleasant surprise. Coming just in time for Christmas 2020, Jon Sable, Freelance creator Mike Grell is set to launch a Kickstarter campaign for a five-part, deluxe hardcover omnibus collection of his classic independent comic book. The Jon Sable, Freelance Deluxe Omnibus Set will be available on Kickstarter through his Masterstroke Studios imprint. Grell has recently run a successful Kickstarter to revive his Maggie the Cat title.
JON SABLE, FREELANCE, the story of a former African hunter in the concrete jungle, was one of the earliest successes among independent comics of the 1980s helped redefine what the medium could achieve.. A top seller, SABLE often saw higher sales and critical praise than Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Avengers, and many other mainstay titles.
Grell left art duties on JON SABLE, FREELANCE with issue #44, but continued to write the title through issue #56 before leaving to do GREEN ARROW: THE LONGBOW HUNTERS for DC in 1987 (the same year SABLE became a short-lived TV show on ABC, co-starring newcomer Rene Russo), continuing to push the boundaries of comics within the major companies thanks to the independent comics’ influence.
Masterstroke will first release the collection through Kickstarter and the campaign will include companion books featuring “the original Freelance Writing letters columns, a guide to the characters, guns and gadgets, creator commentary and new art from Grell. More will be announced as the campaign gets underway.”
Masterstroke is expecting to run a three-week Kickstarter campaign for the hardcover omnibus collection’s first volume “in time for Christmas.” Volume 1 is expected to ship in the spring of 2021, with the remaining volumes set to be released over the following two years. Volume 5 is targeting a release that will coincide with Grell’s 75th birthday in 2022.
