The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Wonder Twins.
It’s Wednesday so that means it’s time to pick you the new comics from Worlds Apart Birmingham (formerly Nostalgia & Comics) or it’s distingushed competition Forbidden Planet. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks of the comics available today from your local comic book store.
This time it’s the final issue of a series I’ve championed for a while Wonder Twins #12 from DC’s Wonder Comics Imprint that is my comic of the week. We also have a new Machine Man series starting at Marvel that should be worth a read.
I also recommend a bunch of other great comics to discover this week including a bunch of Marvel and DC titles and the continuing voyages of the Starship Enterprise at IDW.
If all of these great comics aren’t enough for you then why not bolster your reading list by checking out some of my previous choices in the videos at the bottom of the page.
Title: Wonder Twins
Publisher: Wonder Comics/DC
Issue No.: 12
Creative Team: Mark Russell – Writer : Stephen Byrne – Artist & Cover Artist
I’ve been a fan of this book since the beginning and whilst I’m saddened to see the series come to an end I’m glad we have been able to watch Zan and Jayna evolve and grow in the capable hands of Russell and Byrne. Mark Russell is a incredible gifted writer and has taken some second rate characters and crafted a beautiful and well rounded story – we have felt every success and failure the twins have endured. Stephen Byrne has been delivering some career best art and given how marvellous his art always is that is mighty fine praise. I hope this isn’t the last time we see these creator and characters together. Farewell Zan and Jayne it’s been a blast.
From the Publisher:
“The world is saved again! But now Zan and Jayna must answer to the Justice League for the choices they made in order to save it. Meanwhile, the League of Annoyance is back in action, and Cell Phone Sylvia will do whatever it takes to get her revenge on the twins—but they might get a little help from an unexpected ally! The critically acclaimed series ends here—don’t miss it!“
Title: Machine Man 2020
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Christos Gage & Tom DeFalco – Writers : Mike Hawthorne & Andy MacDonald – Artists : Nick Roche – Cover Artist : Dave Rapoza – Variant Cover Artist
I’ve always had a soft soft spot for Aaron Stack. A character first introduced in the comic adaptation of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Machine Man has gone on to appear alongside the likes of The Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D. and as a member of NextWave. It’s great to have him return and I’m curious to find out what lies in store of Machine Man.
From the Publisher:
“The A.I. uprising has begun, and Machine Man finds himself torn about his place in the revolution! As the battle rages around him, will Machine Man aid mankind’s fight for survival or join his robot brethren in ushering a new age? Plus, when faced with a figure from his past, Machine Man must decide-is it time to follow his programming or his heart? Don’t miss out on this epic adventure from Christos Gage and Andy MacDonald! Plus, revisit Machine Man in 2020 with legendary creator, Tom DeFalco!“
