The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Adventureman
We have a bumper five books on the Pull List this week. Firstly we have our Comic of the Week, Adventureman, and then the latest issues of Inferno, Once and Future, S.W.O.R.D. and We Only Find Them When They’re Dead. This week we also have three new comics to look out for On The Radar including the final issue of M.O.M.: Mother of Madness.
In Meanwhile… we take a look at the latest Kickstarter from Unlikely Heroes Studios.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Adventureman
Issue: 6
Publisher: Image Comics
Written by Matt Fraction : Art by Rachel Dodson and Terry Dodson
“A FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK,” Part One
Claire Connell has become the new Adventureman, thus awakening a long-lost ally and rousing some long-gone ghosts from the Adventure Age that have unfinished business…
I’m loving this modern pulp adventure. With a great cast of characters and a unique spin of the golden age of heroes this book is one of my favourites. While Fraction delivers great stories, its the beautiful art by the Dodson’s that really make this book soar.
Title: Inferno
Issue: 2
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Jonathan Hickman : Art by Stefano Caselli : Cover by Jerome Opeña
FEEL THE FIRE! Secrets. Lies. They have a way of coming out and biting you when you least expect them. The secrets and lies of Krakoa will shake it to its foundation. Head of X Jonathan Hickman, continues a tale of consequences with one of his first Marvel collaborators, artist Stefano Caselli!
No previews were available for this book and given what happened last issue it’s no surprise. It looks like Hickman is planning to go out with bang and this is already a must read book.
Title: Once and Future
Issue: 21
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Kieron Gillen : Art by Dan Mora : Coloured by Tamra Bonvillain
What ancient and mythical danger awaits Bridgette, Duncan, and Rose as they seek Rose’s parents in the city of Bath? To complicate matters, an Arthurian knight pursues them with an offer for Rose and Duncan — join the Round Table or face death. If they survive the encounter, they’ll be pulled into the next phase of Bridgette’s plan… finding the “lair of the greatest hunter the accord has ever seen.”
I adore the Britishness of this book. In a UK ruined by Brexit and a bungling government, Kieron Gillen’s take on British folklore is a joy to read. Mora and Bonvillain are doing fabulous things with the art. I love this book and I recommend you check it out.
Title: S.W.O.R.D.
Issue: 9
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Al Ewing : Art by Jacopo Camagni : Cover by Stefano Caselli
THE SHI’AR IMPERIAL GUARD VS… THE LEGION?! With Abigail Brand’s attention divided between two S.W.O.R.D. stations, all ORCHIS needs is to pick their moment to strike. Meanwhile, the Shi’ar Empress Xandra is making her first formal visit to the Lake Hellas Diplomatic Ring…and stepping into the gunsights of the all-new LETHAL LEGION!
Having finished The Immortal Hulk, I hope Mr Ewing will take this team of mutants on even stranger adventures. This is a book with massive potential and it’s not yet really been able to let loose. I’m enjoying how things have been developing and I’m here as long as Al is writing.
Title: We Only Find Them When They’re Dead
Issue: 9
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Al Ewing : Art by Simone Di Meo
How far are the Worshippers willing to go for the cause? Bristow has always done whatever is needed to rise through the ranks of the security services, but now he’ll make his move and reveal his true ambition. And Bristow’s secret meeting with a shadowy devotee may alter Jason and Chen’s fates forever…
With Dune doing gangbusters in cinemas right now, this is the perfect comic for people looking for more epic wide-screen sci-fi. Al Ewing is building a fascinating new world and Simone Di Meo is delivering some spectacularly lush art. Prepare to be in awe.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
M.O.M.: Mother of Madness #3

It’s time. Madeleine’s bunker of abominations comes face to face with Walter’s blood-crazed psychopaths.
Let them fight!

“ANT: WHO SHE IS AND HOW SHE CAME TO BE!”
Erik Larsen takes on a whole new wall-crawler! ANT’s epic adventure kicks off with this all-new origin issue! A new ongoing title by ERIK LARSEN.
A Monstrously Good Kickstarter
After the hugely successful The Art of Ian Richardson, Unlikely Heroes Studios are back with their latest Kickstarter campaign for Miss Medusa’s Monstrous Menagerie.
It’s 1963, and having a carnival of 666 monsters ain’t the draw it used to be. Miss Medusa’s Monstrous Menagerie is one of the last two Mythic shows left in the U.S., trucking from one backwater jerkass town to the next. It’s dirty work, and sometimes you barely make the nut, but America’s still the land of plenty (of rubes). For this season at least, Miss Medusa’s hiring, and you can still run away and join the circus. (Mythics, Cryptids, Gods, and Atomics only, please. Humans need not apply.)
ISSUE 1: OKLAHOMA CITY, September, 1963. Miss Medusa enters contract negotiations with Belinda, Wasp-Woman of Sussex. Sharon puts a finger on Calliope’s organ and vies with a Peryton for the vacant Publicist gig. Hob the Brownie doesn’t take shit off rubes. Red Comb Andy and Trash explain why you shouldn’t f*** with unionized Faeries. Damn near everybody gags on Churnmilk Peg’s Hawt Nutz.
ie powerhouse Unlikely Heroes Studios has manifested ANOTHER entirely new MATURE READERS property to throw into your face holes like a freshly-fried corndog! Join writer, background artist, and colorist Paul Hanley (Doctor Who, The Unthinkables), character artist Matt Frank (Godzilla, Transformers, Power Rangers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and letterer Matt Krotzer (Dark Horse, Image, Zenoscope) on a zany, colorful, darker-than-expected adventure into sixties carnival life.
You can back this campaign over on the Miss Medusa’s Monstrous Menagerie #1 Kickstarter page.
