The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was always going to be a hit with me. So of course our Comic of the Week could be nothing else. Filling out the Pull List are the latest issue of Arrowsmith: Behind Enemy Lines and the final issue of X Deaths of Wolverine. We also have four great comics to look out for On The Radar from DC Black Label, Image Comics and Dark Horse Comics. In MEANWHILE… Metallic Dynamite a new Kickstarter campaign worth checking out.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Godzilla vs. The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Issue: 1
Publisher: BOOM! Studios/IDW Publishing
Writer – Cullen Bunn
Artist, Cover Artist, Variant Cover Artist- Freddie Williams II
Colourist- Andrew Dalhouse
When Rita Repulsa uses an ancient artifact to transport herself to a universe without Power Rangers, she finds herself in a world with aliens, kaiju, and… Godzilla! Hoping to annihilate this new foe, Rita hurls her own terrible creatures into battle. But she never expects that the Rangers have followed her to this alternate reality, pitting the Dinozords themselves head-to-head with the King of the Monsters!
How could I not make this my comic of the week. I’m a huge fan of Godzilla and I’ve enjoyed some of the previous Rangers team-ups. Cullen Bunn is a great writer and Freddie Williams II is an artist more people should know about. This book looks like it has hit written all over it and I can’t wait to read my copy. So if you are a fan of either the Big G or The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers new sure to pick this one up today.
Title: Arrowsmith: Behind Enemy Lines
Issue: 3
Publisher: Image Comics
Writer – Kurt Busiek
Artist, Cover Artist- Carlos Pacheco
Fletcher takes part in a dangerous and dramatic jailbreak, engages in a pursuit through the borderlands of magic, and meets enigmatic new allies.
This series is developing nicely. It’s great to this world and it’s characters back in print. This alternate history setting with magic and dragons being part of the WWI conflict is right up my street. A new edition of the previous arc, So Smart in Their Fine Uniforms, should be available soon if you want to start from the beginning, but don’t miss this treat of a book.
Title: X Deaths of Wolverine
Issue: 5
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Writer – Benjamin Percy
Artist- Federico Vicentini
Colourist – Dijjo Lima
Letterer, Designer – Cory Petit
THE FUTURE CRASHES INTO THE PRESENT WITH THE SHOWDOWN YOU’LL HAVE TO SEE TO BELIEVE! WEEK 10—It’s WOLVERINE versus WOLVERINE?! With the time-traveling mission behind him, the truth will be revealed. But who—or WHAT—will remain as the OMEGA WOLVERINE?
CONTINUED FROM X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #5.
It all ends here. This has been my favourite of the two series and now it has to wrap up the story and launch us In to the Second Krakoa Age. Part of me wonders how things might have played out if Hickman had struck around but that’s not what we have here. Instead we’ve had a fairly rip-roaring adventure that should have many repercussions for the future of mutants.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
The Human Target #6
DC Black Label
Writer – Tom King
Artist, Cover Artist – Greg Smallwood
Letterer – Clayton Cowles
After a tragic confrontation leaves a Justice Leaguer dead, Christopher Chance, the Human Target, is one step closer to solving his own murder…but also one step closer to his own grave. With only six days left, can he find the truth through webs of lies?
Saga #57
Image Comics
Writer – Brian K. Vaughan
Artist, Cover Artist- Fiona Staples
Designer, Letterer- Fonografiks
Long-term relationships are easy? LYING.
Count Crowley: Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter #1
Dark Horse Comics
Writer – David Dastmalchian
Artist, Cover Artist- Lukas Ketner
It’s been a hell of a week for Jerri Bartman. She lost her job, crashed her car, took the only gig available hosting the midnight monster show, and . . . oh yeah-dismembered a zombie. No big deal. Now, to protect the people she loves, she’s going to have to take a crash course in monster hunting. And quickly-a vengeful vampire just booked a first-class flight into town.
Grrl Scouts: Stone Ghost #1
Image Comics
Writer, Penciller, Cover Artist – Jim Mahfood
Becsu and Gordi spring into action to rescue Dio from the clutches of Dudley and his evil crew! Packed from cover to cover (no ads!) with completely unique eye-poppin’ MAHFOOD art, including bonus comics and behind-the-scenes fun! Plus, an absolutely badass variant cover from superstar artist BRANDON GRAHAM! Feel the Funk!
