The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Shadowman
Time to check out some newly released comics. Shadowman returns for his second issue. with Strange Adventure New Mutants and X-Men joining him on the main Pull List. Four new comics make it in to our On The Radar section, including the delayed Star Trek: Year Five and you should definitely check them out.
In Meanwhile… we get our first look at the MCU Phase 4 epic – Eternals and we get physical with the Justice League.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Shadowman
Issue: 2
Publisher: Valiant
Written by Cullen Bunn : Art by Jon Davis-Hunt
The bone-chilling team of Cullen Bunn and Jon Davis-Hunt bring forth a terrifying tale in this can’t miss new chapter of Valiant’s hit horror series.
The hellscape known as the Deadside has pried open a doorway to Earth in Enoch, Arizona! And our only chance at survival against the awakening desert beasts is SHADOWMAN.
The first issue of Shadowman was really great so I can’t wait to see where this series goes. Cullen Bunn is an excellent writer (but I have to stop thinking currant bun when I see his name) and Jon Davis-Hunt should be more of a superstar than he is. They are both firing on all cylinders here and this book deserves to be a massive hit for Valiant.
Title: Strange Adventures
Issue: 10
Publisher: DC Black Label
Written by Tom King : Art by Mitch Gerads and Evan Shaner
From the Publisher:
Once upon a time on Rann, Adam Strange made a deal with his neighbors and foes to take a stand against the invading Pykkts. Now, on Earth, he is trying to do the same thing: to get all the heroes to rise as one to keep the marauders from doing to his home planet what they already did to his adopted one. But the original deal was a devil’s bargain, and Alanna Strange has received a mysterious letter that may tell her more than she wants to know. If she wants to keep her husband safe, it’s time for her to go on the offensive.
I’m still fascinated by this book and it’s a shame the publishing schedule has deterred some fans from sticking with it. Whilst it hasn’t quite hit the heights of Mister Miracle it’s great to see Adam Strange taken seriously.
Title: New Mutants
Issue: 18
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Vita Ayala : Art by Rod Reis : Cover by Christian Ward
From the Publisher:
LOOKING FOR LOVE IN ALL THE WRONG PLACES! The NEW MUTANTS’ path seems simple: train, guide and mentor the youth. Sure, they didn’t ask for the job, but they’ve been figuring it out together, right? How wrong could it go? The NEW MUTANTS are about to find out.
Still one of my favourite X-books and I love Rod Reis’ art.
Title: X-Men
Issue: 20
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Jonathan Hickman : Art by Francesco Mobili : Cover by Leinil Francis Yu
From the Publisher:
SYSTEM ONLINE. Processing.
Okay – just look at that cover and synopsis. The return of the Nimrod model sentinel cannot bode well for the inhabitants of Krakoa. I’m very excited to read this issue and that cover is just awesome.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

DC Comics

Spinning out of DC Future State, the story of how Shilo Norman became the Mister Miracle of tomorrow starts here.
The Mister Miracle show used to be the hottest ticket in town, whether you caught him onstage escaping from perilous traps or spotted him on the streets of Metropolis taking out bad guys. What Shilo Norman forgot is the first rule of both showbiz and super-heroing: always leave them wanting more. Now it’s time to start showing the world what a miracle man can do. Showbiz/superhero rule #2: timing is everything. There’s a new performer in town who wants to knock Mister Miracle off his pedestal and stake a claim to his famous moniker! Can Shilo break free of this trap? (Why yes, that is a clue.)
Title: Star Trek: Year Five

From the Publisher:

Eternals Teased
After what has seemed like an eternity Marvel have finally released a trailer for their Phase Four film Eternals. Due to hit cinema screens in November this looks pretty intriguing and we get to see a brief shot of Dane Whitman, aka The Black Knight. Enjoy.
Getting Physical With The Justice League
Following on from its streaming release earlier this year on HBO Max in the US and Sky Cinema here in the UK, Zack Snyder’s Justice League is finally released on physical formats this week.
This 4 hour reconstruction of Snyder’s original vision is a marked improvement over the 2017 Whedon effort. The IMAX format presentation is best viewed on as big a screen as possible so anyone with a 4K projector is in for a visual treat. The blu-ray edition I received from the fine folks at Warner Bros UK sees the film spilt over 2 discs with ‘Road to Justice League’ a 25-minute behind the scenes documentary, with Zack Snyder reflecting on his career, his trilogy of DC superhero movies, and this film specifically, housed on the first disc.
I’ll be doing a more in-depth review soon but the film is available now on DVD, blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD from WB Shop UK and all good retailers.
Cast: Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Ray Fisher, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, Henry Cavill
Director: Zack Snyder
Writer: Chris Terrio
Released By: Warner Bros Home Entertainment
Certificate: 15
Duration: 242 mins
Release Date: 24th May 2021
