The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Shadowman
Welcome to another edition of the Pull List. A new comic from Valiant I’ve been waiting for is our comic of the week and there are two other comics that make it on to the pull list. Four other comics make it in to our On The Radar section and you should definitely check them out.
In Meanwhile… we are take a look at the new Kickstarter for Dead Eyes and a new comic from Emilia Clarke.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Shadowman
Issue: 1
Publisher: Valiant
Written by Cullen Bunn : Art by Jon Davis-Hunt
From the Publisher:
A brand-new horror series!
From the New York Times bestselling master of horror Cullen Bunn (Venom) and bone-chilling artist Jon Davis-Hunt (Clean Room) comes a shocking supernatural odyssey.
The forces of darkness are awakening and they are hungry for life. Will Jack Boniface, feared by the forces of evil as the protector Shadowman, be able to save us all?
This new series of Shadowman is brought to us by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Jon Davis-Hunt and works as a jumping-on point for anyone unfamiliar with the character. Jack Boniface is Shadowman, an this first issue sees him facing off against a monster looking for its companion who was ripped from its home dimension. Through this monster, Jack comes into conflict with a group of socialites attempting to contact demonic forces. Valiant have developed a very interesting stable of characters and if you’ve not yet dipped your toe into their world this book is a great place to start
Title: Once and Future
Issue: 18
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Kieron Gillen : Art by Dan Mora : Colours by Tamra Bonvillain
From the Publisher:
The truth shall be revealed… and our world is hardly ready for the consequences to come. But don’t worry, Duncan and Bridgette are here to save Britain from being pulled into the Otherworld.Unless, of course, they fail.
The end of another great arc in one of the best books out there. Kieron Gillen has confirmed the book will be back in the late summer as it takes the usual creator owned break – Saga fans will understand. This really is a great book that has lots of say about life in the UK right now and many of the core themes resonate across the globe. Pick up the trades before the next arc begins, you won’t be disappointed.
Title: New Mutants
Issue: 17
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Vita Ayala : Art by Rod Reis : Cover by Christian Ward
From the Publisher:
WHAT’S LEFT OVER WHEN YOU GO HOME? With a mutant child lost in Otherworld, it’s up to the NEW MUTANTS to find and extract him…without losing themselves in the process. Meanwhile, on Krakoa: Warlock makes a friend. Wolfsbane makes a friend. Magik makes some enemies.
The X-books continue to entertain and New Mutants is a very solid title. Vita Ayala has a very distinct voice and I love Rod Reis’ art. With things changing again soon for the merry mutants anything could happen in these pages.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Mom is always right
Multiple Emmy award nominated actress Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones, Me Before You) will debut her first comic book series—the forthcoming M.O.M.: Mother of Madness—at Image Comics this July. This new, three-issue superhero series will be co-written by the GLAAD Media Award nominated Marguerite Bennett (Josie and the Pussycats, Angela) with art by Leila Leiz (Horde).
In M.O.M.: Mother of Madness, the mayhem begins with Maya, under-the-weather scientist by day, over-the-top superhero by night, and badass single mom 24/7.
“We’re always calling mothers superheroes, and I’m like, what if they were? What if they legitimately were superheroes?” said Clarke in an exclusive scoop on the announcement with Entertainment Weekly. “Maya has had a very hard life, and she finds herself in a place where everything that makes her unique, she hates and is ashamed about. It’s only in the discovery of her powers that she finds her true acceptance of who she is.”
Deadpool action collides with Fleabag comedy when Maya activates her freakish superpowers to take on a secret sect of human traffickers.
Each installment of the series will be an extra-length issue filled to the brim with comedy and chaos.
M.O.M.: Mother of Madness #1 will showcase a cover A by Jo Ratcliffe, a renowned artist whose work has been featured by a number of globally recognized brands and magazines including the likes of Vogue UK and Juxtapoz.
The Cover B for this first issue will be provided by Eisner award winning Jen Bartel, whose clients have included such global brands as Netflix, MONDO, Adidas, LucasFilms, and more.
M.O.M.: Mother of Madness will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, July 21.
