The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Skybound X
Skybound X is my Comic of the Week again this week in what is a relatively quiet week. Yet another mutant book makes up the rest of the Pull List. Six more new comics make it in to our On The Radar section, including the latest issues of X-Men Legends and Compass and the first issues of Moon Knight and M.O.M: Mother of Madness and you should definitely check them out.
In Meanwhile… we take a look at Batman 89 from DC Comics and Meanwhile… in Coventry 2021.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com. Now on with the comics…
Title: Skybound X
Issue: 3
Publisher: Skybound/Image
Written by Daniel Warren Johnson, Robert Kirkman and Kyle Starks : Art by Erica Henderson, Daniel Warren Johnson, Ryan Ottley and Cory Walker : Cover by Arthur Adams
The third chapter of RICK GRIMES 2000! Plus, a rip-roaring MURDER FALCON throwdown, a spotlight on ASSASSIN NATION fan-favorite, F*ck Tarkington, and the latest installment of the greatest genius canine adventurer, SCIENCE DOG!
I believe anthology comics are just something we understand more here in the UK. I’ve been enjoying this journey through the Skybound universe with Rick Grimes 2000 acting as the anchor. Some of the characters featured so are are ones I’ve not really read before and I’m likely to check out their further adventures, which is what this book wants you to do. I’ve seen Murder Falcon before and Daniel Warren Johnson is an amazing creator (you definitely should be checking out his work on the Beta Ray Bill mini series at Marvel) and Science Dog looks a lot of fun. This five issue weekly series is doing everything I want to see for this kind of book and hope when it’s over we won’t have to wait 10 years to see it again. Oh, and just look at that Art Adams cover.
Title: New Mutants
Issue: 20
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Vita Ayala : Art by Alex Lins : Cover by Martin Simmonds
WEEKEND AT XAVIER’S! In the heart of the Wild Hunt, schemers are dreaming…deceptions are coming to light…and the dead are walking. Just another day on Krakoa for the NEW MUTANTS.
The rest of the mutants may be terraforming Mars but it’s the very intimate and personal stories going on in this book that make it one of the best of the current crop of mutant comics. The recent Legion TV show on FX gave the Shadow King some much needed nuance and his appearance here is one that makes us wonder how far he will go to corrupt the young mutants of Krakoa. This is a book about family and it makes for some fascinating reading.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
