Now on with the comics…
The New Champion of Shazam!
Issue 3
DC Comics
Writer – Josie Campbell
Artist – Evan ‘Doc’ Shaner
Letterer – Becca Carey
Buy from Comixology – The New Champion of Shazam! #3 (Link)
CHAPTER THREE: DON’T READ THE COMMENTS!
After a disastrous outing as Shazam, Mary is the laughingstock of the internet. Will she ever be taken seriously? Now it’s up to her to ignore the haters and help those who really need her. The missing-persons problem in Philly has only gotten worse, and our hero is running out of time to find the culprit behind it!
It’s really great to see Mary taking the spotlight in this series, and if you’re not already a Hoppy fan, what’s wrong with you. This book manages to be serious but not at the expense of some fun. Campbell, Shaner and Carey are crafting a book that should be on everyones Pull List.
She-Hulk
Issue 7
Marvel Comics
Writer – Rainbow Rowell
Artist – Luca Maresca
Colourist – Rico Renzi
Letterer – Joe Caramagna
Buy on Comixology – She-Hulk #7 (Link)
After the earthquake that was SHE-HULK #6, She-Hulk knows she has some work to do and a humdinger of a mystery to solve. You will not be able to predict what she finds.
LEGACY #170
I’d like to think this book is gaining more attention following the recent Disney+ series because it really deserves it. I’m loving the developing relationship between Jen and Jack, it’s really great to have Jack of Hearts back, and it’s such a delight to see Jen handled so well. Marvel really are putting out some great books right now and you should all be picking this up for Jen Bartel’s incredible covers if nothing else.
X-Men: Red
Issue 8
Marvel Comics
Writer – Al Ewing
Artist – Madibek Musabekov
Colourist – Federico Blee
Letterer – Ariana Maher
Buy on Comixology – X-Men: Red #8 (Link)
WELCOME TO THE WORLD FARM! CABLE springs his trap for ABIGAIL BRAND—but are her plans too big for even the Askani’son to handle alone? To foil a scheme stretching from the Sol System to the Shi’ar Empire and beyond, the Soldier of Tomorrow’s going to need all the help he can get…from his very own X-MEN RED!
Nat and Abigail go head to head this issue. That’s should be all you need to know to pick up this issue. The fact it’s being written by Al Ewing should mean we get a story that won’t go where we expect.
Predator
Issue 4
Marvel Comics
Writer – Ed Brisson
Artist – Kev Walker
Colourist – Frank D’Armata
Letterer – Clayton Cowles
Buy on Comixology – Predator #4 (Link)
DAY OF THE HUNTER, PART 4
Theta’s in danger as two Predators have her cornered! It’s life or death as Theta goes head-to-head in an all-out dogfight!
I’m having blast with this Predator series. Kev Walker is doing a bang up job on art. It’s a shame that unlike licensed properties in the past we aren’t getting something that crosses over into the main Marvel Universe. Maybe soon, as I’d love to see a Predator take on the Brood with the X-Men thrown in for good measure.
Bill and Ted Presents: Death
Issue 1
Opus Comics
Writers – Erik Burnham and John Barber
Artists – Federica Manfredi and Wayne Nichols
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Bill and Ted Presents: Death #1 (Link)
The Duke of Spook, the Doc of Shock, The Man with No Tan, please say hello to Death himself, the Grim Reaper, in this special one-shot featuring Bill & Ted’s co-star in Bogus Journey. So, Death, Beethoven, Death, and a hell beast go to a rock concert… Tell me if you’ve heard this one before. Plus, Death comes for Rufus!
I really enjoyed the recent Bill and Ted Roll the Dice series, so it’s great to see Opus continuing to bring us tales from the Stallyn-Verse. Death is such a great character and I’m totally on board for comics that try to do something a little different.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Night of the Ghoul #2
Dark Horse Comics
Writer – Scott Snyder
Artist – Francesco Francavilla
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Night of the Ghoul #2 (Link)
In the film Night of the Ghoul, it’s 1918 and our nation is rejoicing as soldiers return from the battlegrounds of the Great War. But what if something has come back with them? In the real world, a father and son discover the blurred line between fiction and reality.
The writer and artist behind Batman: The Black Mirror reunite to shed light on a celluloid artifact once thought forever missing, perhaps with good reason…
The Ones #1
Dark Horse Comics
Writer – Brian Michael Bendis
Artist – Jacob Edgar
Colourist – Kike J Diaz
Buy on Comixology – The Ones #1 (Link)
From Award-winning writer Brian Michael Bendis, comes the next, best awesome super team to end all super teams…THE ONES!
Every single person in every mythology that was told they were THE ONE are brought together for the first time to defeat…THE ONE. The actual one. The real actual one.
This amazing new vision is brought to life by wunderkind artist and cocreator Jacob Edgar (Batman, Army of Darkness). Watch as he brings explosive comics splendor to this big new world! Think Good Omens meets Ghostbusters meets The Adam Project meets The Goonies meets Everything Everywhere All at Once meets, um, anything else you’ve ever liked!
