Hello! Welcome to the latest Geeky Brummie Games Release Roundup!
This week, wolf-deer and the most effective way to lose your friends.
New Releases
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but in Citadelum (PC) you can certainly try. This is a city builder set during the Roman period, as you expand your settlement into a glorious metropolis that even the Gods would approve of.
Developed by Abylight Studios.
Nikoderiko: The Magical World (PS5, Switch, Xbox X/S) is a love letter to classic platformers of old, drawing heavily from jungle-based franchises such as Donkey Kong and Crash Bandicoot. They even went as far as hiring Donkey Kong composer David Wise. Looks cute, if a little derivative.
Developed by Vea Games and published by Knights Peak Interactive.
With tedious inevitability, Just Dance 2025 (PS5, Switch, Xbox X/S) struts its way to store shelves this week. I have no idea how to differentiate the many entries in this series at this point, but I’m informed there is lore? Somehow? Anyway, please enjoy your dancing game if you’re interested.
Developed and published by Ubisoft.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S) is a game set in the same universe as the film series of the same name. And yes, the gameplay of this one revolves around staying extremely quiet as you sneak around. It also includes the ability to detect your microphone, so yes, that includes you, the player, keeping quiet too.
Developed by Stormind Games (Remothered series, Batora: Lost Haven) and published by Saber Interactive.
Unknown 9: Awakening (PC, PlayStation, Xbox) is a game that feels like it’s slipped under the radar despite its clearly sizeable budget. However, it sounds like a solid mid-tier adventure game. You play as Haroona, a woman with the power to see into a realm that overlaps our own. An interesting one, but sadly likely to be overlooked I feel.
Developed by Reflector Entertainment and published by Bandai Namco.
Destroying friendships since 1998, Super Mario Party Jamboree (Switch) is the latest entry in Nintendo’s multiplayer board game franchise. You know what to expect by now, with dice rolling, mini-games and absolutely obnoxious mechanics designed to cause frustration to random players.
Developed by NDCube and published by Nintendo.
Game of the Week
Game of the Week is Neva (PC, PS5, Switch, Xbox X/S), a game about a girl and her wolf.
Set in a world clearly inspired by Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, you play as Alba, a huntress and protector of a forest slowly giving way to corruption. Throughout the game she helps to raise a wolf-deer named Neva, training her up to be a protector too. Together, you fight the terrible beasts taking over the forest and build a bond together.
This is another Game of the Week I was fortunate enough to review for my day job, and good lord, this is a beautiful game. There are some smart gameplay choices with a surprising amount of challenge and every single frame of the game could be hung in a gallery. But mostly this is a heartfelt tale of the power of a strong bond, a story told entirely without words. It’s a short experience, but it’s one that’s worth jumping into.
Developed by Nomada Studio (Gris) and published by Devolver Digital.
