Hello! Welcome to the latest Geeky Brummie Games Release Roundup!
This week, exclamation marks!
Another quick intro this week, but I do feel it’s notable that the games I most care about this week both have exclamation marks in their titles. Clearly this is something all games should adopt going forward.
Re-Releases
Tomba! Special Edition (PC, PlayStation, Switch) brings back the PS1 hidden gem Tomba! (or Tombi! as it was known for its original European release), a platformer about a pink-haired caveman who pounces on pigmen. I swear it’s an excellent game though, as you explore a silly world of goofy characters and quests to stop a cabal of evil pigs who must be sealed in bags. Genuinely never expected this to make a return, but here we are.
Developed by Whoopee Camp (original) and Limited Run Games (remaster).
New Releases
Closer the Distance (PC, PlayStation, Xbox) is a game where you control the spirit of a deceased girl attempting to heal the community she’s left behind. You help guide and influence them into moving on, making tough choices as you go.
Developed by Osmotic Studios (Orwell) and published by Skybound Games (Before Your Eyes, WrestleQuest, Escape Academy).
The Garden Path (PC, Switch) is a cosy gardening sim set in a world of adorable characters. The developers have stated the game puts an emphasis on the small moments.
Developed by Carrotcake and published by Mooncat Games (A Long Journey to an Uncertain End).
Kitsune Tails (PC, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox) is a 2D platformer about a kitsune goddess on a quest to rescue her beloved sorceress love interest from a former mentor turned bad. Promises abilities tied to cute outfits and the ability to make your own levels. Looks cute!
Developed by Kitsune Games and published by MidBoss
World of Goo 2 (PC, Switch) is the very long-awaited sequel to one of the original indie darlings. Promises more physics-based goo-building puzzles as seen in the original 2008 game, although it’s not entirely clear what differentiates this one.
Developed by 2D BOY and Tomorrow Corporation.
Game of the Week
Game of the Week is Thank Goodness You’re Here! (PC, PlayStation, Switch), a comedy game set in Northern England.
You play a tiny salesman visiting the town of Barnsworth and get up to shenanigans, mostly involving slapping people. Along the way, you’ll meet a cast of bizarre characters, all with their own problems you must work to solve.
Honestly, every time I see something about Thank Goodness You’re Here!, I instantly know that I need to play it. It’s an aggressively British comedy game and features utterly surreal characters and scenarios. Plus Matt Berry does a Northern accent, which has me sold.
Developed by Coal Supper (The Good Time Garden) and published by Panic (Untitled Goose Game).
