Mirai (PG) – 99mins
The birth of a sibling is a joyous time for many, but not for Kun. Four years old and spoilt rotten, he sees the arrival of baby sister Mirai as competition for his parents’ love. That is, until magical encounters with an older Mirai and family past, present and future send the siblings on an intimate journey through time and space, to confront Kun’s uncertain feelings and prepare him to become the big brother he needs to be.
From the Stusio Chizu and legendary director Mamoru Hisoda (BELLE, The Boy and The Beat, The Girl Who Lept Through Time, Samurai Champloo), Mirai is a gorgeously animated film about family acceptance and change wich ‘Beautifully Blends the Past, Present, and Future’ (comicbook.com)
Promare (12A) – 111mins
Thirty years have passed since the appearance of Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves “Mad Burnish” appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team “Burning Rescue” and their leader, Lio Fotia, begins.
From Studio Trigger and Director Hiroyuki Imaishi (Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Star Wars: Visions, KILL la KILL, Gurren Lagann), with a frenetic and stunning visual style. Promare brings the topics of discrimination, injustice and bureaucracy to the table with some great storytelling and tongue-in-cheek humour, all presented on screen by a compelling cast of characters.
