This week’s show was all about our favourite and most noteworthy things in 2018:
Guy rummaged through his virtual music crate to find his albums of 2018 and also picked a few films and TV shows for your consideration:
Albums
Melody’s Echo Chamber – Bon Voyage – After a long break due to some health issues. It’s an album of psychedelic weirdness and a musical trip but worth checking out for fans of Tame Impala.
Shame – Songs of Praise – Released in January, this feels fresh and new British Guitar Music, with a bit of a blockheads vibe to it.
Idles – Joy as an Act of Resistance – The band the country needs right now. Aggressive, loud, punk based music, perfect for a Brexit Britain.
Film
Runner Up
Climax is Gaspar Noe’s latest movie follows a group of young dancers unknowingly drink LSD-laced sangria, at an off grid rave and their spiral into a collective psychedelic breakdown. An uncomfortable but rewarding watch.
Film of the Year
An uncomfortable double bill with Daniel Day Lewis’s last film before retirement (again). Paul Thomas Anderson directs a dark and disturbing portrayal of dressmaking in 1950’s post-war London. Trust us, it’s much darker than that sounds.
TV
Runner Up
The Inside No.9 Halloween Special was a Live episode with a difference, it terrified most people watch it live. One of the best, and most inventive hours of TV broadcast in 2018.
TV of the Year
From HBO and on Sky Atlantic in the UK, It’s The Deuce. It’s about adult cinema, it’s in the 1970’s, it makes you care about the lives and dreams of pimps and prostitutes.
