Whatever you were planning to do next weekend, cancel it because Birmingham Anime Film Festival is back, baby! We have giant robots, dream-hopping detectives, chaotic devil hunters, and owls in fabulous hats — all delivered through the medium of some truly stunning anime.
From Friday 9th to Sunday 11th October, we’re taking over The Mockingbird Cinema with 11 incredible films. These range from cult classics to modern favourites and few treats rarely seen on the big screen in the UK. Whether you’re a long-term lover of anime or just anime-curious, you’ll find something for you. So, bring your friends, family and come along for wicked weekend treat.

- The Concierge — Wholesome, charming, animal‑filled joy.
- Violet Evergarden: The Movie — Bring tissues. No, really.
- Your Name — Body‑swapping, star‑crossed magic.
- Blood: The Last Vampire — Stylish, sharp, atmospheric action (if Blade was a badass school girl).
Every film is screened in Japanese with English subtitles. Tickets to each film is purchased separately with prices from as little as £5. This gives you flexibility whether you’re stopping for one film or plan to make a weekend of it. The programme contains films suitable for all ages.
Where is taking place?
All screenings will take place at The Mockingbird Cinema, a quirky independent cinema in the Custard Factory, Digbeth, Birmingham, B9 4AA. It’s easy to reach from the city centre and surrounded by great places to eat and hang out including Alfred Works, The Old Crown, Spoilers, NQ64 and Chance & Counters.

Birmingham Anime Film Festival is organised by the Birmingham-based media collective Geeky Brummie. Birmingham is a city full of geek culture providing safe and welcoming spaces and communities all over the city. Anime and manga are a big part of this landscape, with the success of Birmingham Comicon and Animecon UK, alongside shops like Tokyo Toys. BAFF is our celebration of this critically important and influential genre of cinema, while also bringing together local communities in local independent venues.
