The Geeky Brummie Pull List with 2000AD Regened
It’s a new look Pull List this week as Geeky Brummie celebrates its fifth anniversary. Comic schedules in the UK seem to be all over the place right now with some comics available digitally before they arrive in stores. At least this weeks Comic of the Week is guaranteed to be on shelves as I pick the first Regened 2000AD of 2021. A couple of mutant books round out the rest of the pull list and three comics are On The Radar.
In Meanwhile… this week some upcoming games and TV shows based on comics.
Now on with the comics…
Title: 2000AD
Issue: 2220

Genres: Horror/Fantasy/Action/ Adventure/Science Fiction
From the Publisher:
2000 AD are celebrating its forty-fourth birthday with its first Regened Prog of the year, bringing together awesome sci-fi stories that can be enjoyed by all ages. Within these beautiful pages, you’ll find another thrilling case for Cadet Dredd, courtesy of Arthur Wyatt and Davide Tinto, and a brain-frazzling Future Shock from Karl Stock and Silvia Califano, alongside no less than three brand-new strips – the high-octane Action Pact by Mike Carroll and Luke Horsman, the twisty-turny Viva Forever by David Baillie and Anna Morozova, and the explosive Mayflies by Mike Carroll and Simon Coleby, set in the Rogue Trooper universe.
In the week 2000AD celebrates its 44th anniversary we get the first Regened prog of 2021. This is the perfect way to celebrate as the prog is accessible to readers of all-ages and provides an opportunity for a whole new generation of 12 year olds to discover the worlds of Judges, mutants, genetic infantrymen and more. This is a solid prog and I’ve enjoyed all of the previous regen progs and they seem to perfectly capture what made 2000AD so exciting back in 1977. Each story is entertaining and if pressed I’d pick the Cadet Dredd as my favourite. 2000AD has weathered the changing comic landscape and maintained a weekly schedule during a global pandemic and we should all be marking its 44th year by picking up this prog.
Title: X-Men
Issue: 18
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Written by Jonathan Hickman : Art by Mahmud A. Asrar
Genres: Superhero
From the Publisher:
A pandemic raging across Alpha Centauri. A powerful enemy aboard the Enterprise. With death lurking around every corner, the crew will face down one of their greatest challenges yet in the shocking conclusion to this episode from Eisner-winning writer Jim McCann (Return of the Dapper Men) and superstar artist Angel Hernandez (Star Trek: Picard)!
Based on the cover it looks like we are finally going to find out what happened to X-23, Synch and Darwin after they disappeared into the Vault way back in issue 5. This is an issue that will hopefully resolve a lot of questions we were left with and means these characters are back in a meaningful way.
Title: New Mutants
Issue: 16
Publisher: Marvel Comics
- Written by Vita Ayala : Art by Rod Reis
Genres: Superhero
From the Publisher:
TO BE REBORN…In the Wild Hunt, someone is looking for friends in all the wrong places. Someone else is missing without a trace. And plans which have long been in motion…begin to unfurl.
New Mutants remains one of the most entertaining to the X-books. With a cast of characters that can take the story is almost any direction it’s never less than entertaining. Vita Ayala seems to have hit the ground running and has a good grasp of this group of mutants. With Reign of X currently running through the X-books it’ll be interesting to see what’s next for the New Mutants.
On the radar this week some other comics not yet on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
You Look Like Death: Tales From The Umbrella Academy #6
Dark Horse Comics
Written by Shaun Simon & Gerard Way : Art by I.N.J. Culbard
Stray Dogs #1
Image Comics
Written by Tony Fleecs : Art by Tony Fleecs & Trish Forstner
Warhammer 40,000: Marneus Calgar #5
Marvel Comics
Written by Kieron Gillen : Art by Jacen Burrows
Are You Invincible?
Amazon released a trailer for the upcoming Invincible show last week. Be warned that this is not an all-ages show. Similar to Amazon’s other big comic hit The Boys, this version of Invincible offers plenty of gory scenes and adult themes. The original Invincible comic was created by Robert Kirkman and Corey Walker and illustrated by Ryan Ottley and this adaptation features an all star voice cast including Steven Yuen, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Grey Griffin, Max Burkholder, Andrew Rannells and Micheal Dorn.
INVINCIBLE is an Amazon Original series based on the groundbreaking comic book from Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead. The story revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson (Steven Yeun), who’s just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons). The hour-per-episode series also stars Sandra Oh, Zazie Beetz, Gillian Jacobs, Zachary Quinto, Jason Mantzoukas, Melise, Mark Hamill, Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogen and more. The first three episodes are coming to Prime Video on March 26, with weekly releases through April 30 after that.
This trailer looks very impressive and the show launches on Amazon Prime on March 26th.
Suit Up and Save Metropolis
During the recent Nintendo Direct the game DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power was announced. Leigh covered this briefly in his roundup last Friday but I thought I’d take a closer look as it is based on the popular DC Comic franchise. Beginning as a web series, DC Super Hero Girls has become a very successful spinoff for these DC Comics-related characters. The games certainly looks the part and is squarely aimed at the existing audience but there could be something here for everyone looking for some comic related fun.
Join the fight as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl from the animated series DC Super Hero Girls, and save Metropolis from some of DC’s most notorious Super-Villains! Each hero can battle baddies with a unique set of abilities: Wonder Woman uses her warrior skills with the Lasso of Truth and Flying Shield, Supergirl has Heat Vision and Super-Breath, and Batgirl can invent crime-fighting gadgets like the Batarang and Bat-Hook. But when you’re not out fighting crime, you have to balance the super life with their lives as teenagers!
Freely explore the city as teenage Super Heroes
Don’t forget to meet up at the best hangout spots from the show like Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice, which also happen to be great places where you can snap photos to share on Superstapost. But stay alert, because you always have to protect your secret identity and you might even run into some of the city’s most mischievous Super-Villains like Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Star Sapphire.
- Join the fight for justice as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl from the animated series, DC Super Hero Girls
- Save Metropolis by using each Super Hero’s unique abilities to defeat the evil Super-Villain forces of Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Star Sapphire
- Explore the city as both heroes and teenagers, visiting iconic hangout spots from the show like Metropolis High School and Sweet Justice – but don’t reveal your secret identity!
This game will be available on Nintendo Switch on June 4th.
