Now on with the comics…

Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1
Image Comics/Skybound
By Robert Kirkman, Ryan Ottley, Annalisa Leoni and Rus Wooton
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Invincible Universe: Battle Beast #1 (Link)
THE BEST NEW (NOT QUITE A) SUPERHERO SERIES IN THE UNIVERSE! Cursed with an unquenchable thirst for violence, BATTLE BEAST searches the universe for the one warrior mightier than him — and a glorious death, his only reward. But even in a universe of mighty Viltrumites like Invincible and Omni-Man, it seems that no one may be able to stop the galaxy’s deadliest warrior… unless he does the unthinkable.
Superstars ROBERT KIRKMAN and RYAN OTTLEY present the most demanded INVINCIBLE story of all time, revealing the secret story of Battle Beast that’s perfect for any long-time fan (no spoilers!) and new readers alike..
With the Amazon Prime TV show introducing the wider world to the joys of Invincible, it makes sense that Kirkman would want to return to the well. This issue picks up right where Battle Beast left off in Invincible #19 when he disappeared through a portal, filling in the gap of what happened from then until his return in Invincible #55. Ottley’s art looks incredible and this book is worth it for that alone. Keep an eye out of the special blind-bag edition which contains some very exciting exclusive extras.

Exquisite Corpses #1
Image Comics
By James Tynion IV, Michael Walsh and Jordie Bellaire
Buy from Forbidden Planet -Exquisite Corpses #1 (Link)
Every five years on Halloween, the wealthiest families in America play a game. Twelve of the deadliest people in the world are dropped into a small town with just one goal: last killer standing wins. For the citizens of Oak Valley, Maine — this year’s unlucky arena — the goal is much simpler. They must survive the night.
Experience a comics event like no other, from the minds of JAMES TYNION IV & MICHAEL WALSH, as they lead a group of the most exciting voices in the industry. Over thirteen blood-soaked chapters, these creators will collaborate and compete to determine who wins and who dies — and the games begin in this triple-sized debut!
Some of the best comic talent of the decade collaborate on what looks to be the best event comic of the year. This high concept series looks to push horror comics to the next level and should be immediately added to your pull list today.

Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #1
IDW Publishing
By Frank Tieri and Ángel Hernández
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens #1 (Link)
Godzilla: Here There Be Aliens is both a fully standalone limited series and the epic conclusion to the Eisner-nominated Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons trilogy! Brought to us by veteran scribe Frank Tieri (Wolverine, Jughead: The Hunger) and new series artist Angel Hernandez (Star Trek).
It’s the middle of the 20th century, and Americans everywhere are terrified by the strange lights hovering above them in the night sky… and they should be.
These UFOs are actually the Xilien invasion force! Revealed to have already been on Earth during the events of Here There Be Dragons: Sons of Giants, the Xiliens have been attempting to destabilize the planet with the help of kaiju from outer space! With the aliens’ claws deep inside the U.S. government, will our rogue operatives manage to band together to save humanity?
First it was Dragons, now it’s Aliens. I am fascinated by how this series will tie up with the events of the previous series, and excited to see how the BIg G will handle an alien invasion force. Angel Hernandez turned in some great work on Star Trek, so I’m looking forward to seeing their take on the giant kaiju. This series promises to be spectacular.

Huck: Big Bad World #1
Dark Horse Comics
By Mark Millar, Rafael Albuquerque, Dave McCaig and Clem Robins
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Huck: Big Bad World #1 (Link)
After being exposed as a super-powered person and hunting down the doctor who gave him — and his mother — their powers, it would seem like Huck could finally get back to the simple life he’d come to love, making folks in his small town feel safe and cared for by doing one good deed a day and being the real change anyone would want to see in the world. But then a mysterious man tells him he and his mother aren’t the ONLY super-people out in the world; many are hiding, just like them.
It’s been a long time since we last saw Huck, our small town gas station attendant with big heart and powers to match (it was way back in 2016, in fact). This new series from Dark Horse Comics will hoopefully have same charm and heart that made Huck one of Millarworld’s best titles.

Gatchaman: Only One Earth #4
Mad Cave Studios
By Tommy Lee Edwards, Nuno Plati, Giada Marchisio and John Workman
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Gatchaman: Only One Earth #4 (Link)
The final battle! Can the ancient teachings of Atrena and the Science Ninja Team’s machinery hold up against Galactor’s cutting-edge technology? A mech battle determines the fate of all!
This has been a great addition to the Mad Cave line of Gatchaman books. Edwards and Plati have captured the world of Science Ninja Team perfectly, delivering a high octane adventure that leaps off the page. This is the final issue of this mini-series but I hope we get more adventures with this creative team soon.

2000AD Sci-Fi Special Returns
Whatever the weather, the 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special 2025 is filled with stories to supercharge your Summer! Featuring 48 pages of high-octane action and adventure from across the Galaxy, this year’s edition of the bestseller features the return of classic characters, alongside some of the most exciting new Thrillers this side of Nu-Earth!

Judge Dredd heads off on his hols thanks to writer Al Ewing, making his long-awaited return to Mega-City One after thrilling readers around the world on series like Immortal Hulk and Absolute Green Lantern! We’re sure it’ll be a nice and peaceful trip for him, and certainly nothing horrific will happen which will require the full force of the Law to be upheld!
Dredd’s followed through spaceport security by the return of Strontium DogJohnny Alpha and his team of intergalactic bounty hunters! Best pack a few extra time grenades and make sure you’ve brought a spare charger for the Electro-Nux, because trouble always follows Johnny, Wulf, and the Search/Destroy Agency!
This packed issue also checks in Cyd Finlea for a one-off The Out story by creators Dan Abnett and Mark Harrison – if anyone knows about getting away from it all, it’s galactic photojournalist Cyd: nobody has gone further “Out” of the known universe than she has!
Ampney Crucis Is Back Too
We’ve a brand new Future Shock from the team of Andi Ewington and Nick Dyer to get you panicking ahead of your own holiday this year… and this special is rounded out by the return of all-round gentleman and occult detective Ampney Crucis to the Galaxy’s Greatest for the first time in… what, a decade? Where the deuce has he been? Only Ian Edginton and D’Israeli know!
With five electric stories to get you crackling with Thrill-Power this summer, The 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special is an adventure into the unknown which you can’t afford to miss! All this and a truly zarjaz cover from Chris Weston? Seatbelts on, universal passports in hand, Earthlets – let’s go!
At only £4.99 for 48 pages of interstellar action, the 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special 2025 will be out on 16 July from all good newsagents and comic book stores, as well as the 2000 AD app and webshop!
