The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Time for another look at the new comics out now in the Pull List. Our Comic Of The Week is the final issue of Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from IDW Publishing and BOOM! Studios. Joining the Big G this week are the latest issues of Samurai Doggy, Jurassic League, Predator, A.X.E.: Judgement Day, The Amazing Spider-Man and X-Men: Red. In our On The Radar selection, we have 4 new comics, The Silver Coin, Do A Powerbomb from Image Comics, Young Hellboy: Assault On Castle Death and the first issue of filmmaker Kevin Smith’s new comic Maskerade from Dark Horse Comics and Secret Stash Press. And MEANWHILE… will be taking a break for a couple of weeks.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
Issue 5
IDW Publishing/BOOM! Studios
Writer – Cullen Bunn
Artist – Freddie Williams II
Buy on Comixology – Godzilla vs Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #5 (Link)
Godzilla and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers have faced a host of terrible foes. Now, though, they face their greatest challenge—the mighty King Ghidorah! Can the “teenagers with attitude” and the King of the Monsters put aside their differences long enough to survive an attack from the three-headed tyrant? Find out in the bombastic conclusion to the most colossal crossover event of the year!
Just magnificent. That’s the only way to describe this awesome comic. Everything about it was just perfect. The characterisations of all the cast were spot on and the art was some of the best Godzilla work I have seen in ages. If you missed this as floppies then you absolutely have to grab it in trade.
Samurai Doggy
Issue 2
Aftershock Comics
Writer – Chris Tex
Artist – Santtos
Buy on Comixology – Samurai Doggy #2 (Link)
As Samurai Doggy and his robo-vulture mentor Rei set out to uncover the truth behind Doggy’s mother’s brutal murders, he first must unravel a gangster scheme within a popular amusement park – but will he be able to take down the gang, or will they take him down first?
The first issue was a dizzying combination to action and storytelling. This reminded me a lot of titles like Lone Wolf and Cub and I’m looking forward to seeing what this book can deliver.
Jurassic League
Issue 5
DC Comics
Writers – Juan Gedeon and Daniel Warren Johnson
Artist – Juan Gedeon
Colourist – Mike Spicer
Letterer – Ferran Delgado
Buy on Comixology – Jurassic League #5 (Link)
Darkseid has revealed himself, and the entire world trembles beneath his might. Can even the newly assembled Jurassic League stand a chance against this ankylosaur antagonist and his Legion of Doomasauria? Experience this prehistoric penultimate chapter to find out!
Dinosaur analogues of modern DC heroes my sound crazy but that’s exactly why I love it. Just bonkers fun is what I’m getting from this book and I hope this penultimate issue sets up a grand finale.
A.X.E.: Judgement Day
Issue 4
Marvel Comics
Writer – Kieron Gillen
Artist – Valerio Schiti
Colourist – Marte Gracia
Letterer – Clayton Cowles
Buy on Comixology – A.X.E.: Judgement Day #4 (Link)
The clock is ticking and midnight looms. It’s not too late.
I’m only picking up this and the tie-in issues of X-books already on the Pull List, but so far I don’t feel like I’m missing to much. Things aren’t going quite as expected and it’ll be interesting to see how it all works out in the end.
Predator
Issue 2
Marvel Comics
Writer – Ed Brisson
Artist – Kev Walker
Colourist – Frank D’Armata
Letterer – Clayton Cowles
Buy on Comixology – Predator #2 (Link)
DAY OF THE HUNTER, PART 2 OF 6
Theta crash-lands on a tundra planet, and her odds of surviving are looking slim! Her only hope is to trek through the wilds to the nearest outpost. But the cold isn’t the only thing she has to worry about…as a Predator watches in the shadow, ready to strike!
A solid introduction for the other big Fox monster to take up residence at Marvel. I’m mostly here for the incredible art of Kev Walker but the story is holding up pretty well so far.
X-Men: Red
Issue 6
Marvel Comics
Writer – Al Ewing
Artist – Stefano Caselli
Colourist – Federico Blee
Letterer – Ariana Maher
Buy on Comixology – X-Men: Red #6 (Link)
BATTLE FOR THE BROKEN LAND! Planet Arakko chose peace over war. Now war has chosen them. The monstrous arsenal of the Eternals is on the march. The Arakkii must defend their broken land according to the ancient laws…but against an enemy even older than they are, can the old ways win? Or is a new Arakko about to be born?
A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY TIE-IN
Al Ewing is a pretty safe pair of hands, and I like his work here on Red. I just wish that he could be let loose a bit more, as most of his run on the X-books have been ties to one event or another.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 9
Marvel Comics
Writer – Zeb Wells
Artist – Patrick Gleason
Colourist – Marcio Menyz
Letterer – Joe Caramagna
Buy on Comixology – The Amazing Spider-Man #9 (Link)
Something happens at the Hellfire Gala that sends Spider-Man and WOLVERINE on a dangerous mission all over creation! That’s right—the best duo in comics is back, but who are they fighting, and what (or who) are they fighting for? NO SPOILERS HERE!
LEGACY #903 | HELLFIRE GALA TIE-IN
It’s timey-wimey shenanigans in this issue of Spidey, as we find out what happened when he and Wolverine ran out of the Hellfire Gala.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
The Silver Coin #14
Image Comics
Writer – Pornsak Pichetshote
Artist – Michael Walsh
Buy on Comixology – The Silver Coin #14 (Link)
Lauren and Darren were working through their issues when the bad year hit. 2020 was when the world caught fire, when their relationship went to hell, and when a strange coin pushed things one step further. The latest chapter in the hit horror anthology THE SILVER COIN, from JOHNNIE CHRISTMAS, JAMES TYNION IV, STEPHANIE PHILLIPS, PORNSAK PICHETSHOTE, and MICHAEL WALSH, is out this month.
Do A Powerbomb #4
Image Comics
Writer and Artist – Daniel Warren Johnson
Colourist – Mike Spicer
Buy on Comixology – Do A Powerbomb #4 (Link)
The Knights of Rhyne have been training in the ring for years to destroy the evil Necroton, and now they have a chance to do it by winning the DEATHLYFE tournament! Only one problem: SUN AND STEEL are in their way!
Young Hellboy: Assault On Castle Death #2
Dark Horse Comics
Writers – Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski
Artist – Craig Rousseau
Colorist – Chris O’Halloran

As Hellboy struggles in the grip of a mysterious illness, a Brotherhood operative inside the B.P.R.D. brings an assassin within striking distance! But even with a fever, young Hellboy has an ace up his (pajama) sleeve . . . or is that a familiar calling card?
Read the exciting continuation of the second Young Hellboy series, from Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and cowriter Tom Sniegoski, with art by Craig Rousseau and colors by Chris O’Halloran.
Markerade #1
Dark Horse Comics/Secret Stash Press
Writers – Kevin Smith and Andy McElfresh
Artist – John Sprengelmeyer
Colourist – Giulia Brusco
Buy on Comixology – Maskerade #1 (Link)
Felicia Dance is hiding in plain sight. Not unless she looks like someone else. The face of justice is reshaped forever in Maskerade-an exciting new vigilante comic series from writers Kevin Smith and Andy McElfresh and artist John Sprengelmeyer, marking the dynamic debut of Smith’s Secret Stash Press imprint with his very own vigilante!
