New Comic Book Day including Pearl
It’s Wednesday so that must mean it’s new comic book day so here are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available from your local comic book store including the new original DC comic from Brian Michael Bendis – Pearl.
Title: Pearl
Publisher: DC Comics
Issue No.: 1
Creative Team: Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos. Cover by Michael Gaydos. Variant Cover by Alex Maleev.
Brian Michael Bendis has settled in at DC and now he is reuniting with Michael Gaydos for their first-ever creator-owned series together. Pearl is a six-part limited series that is part romance and part Yakuza-crime woven together through the artistry of tattoos. Pearl is also the flagship launch title of Bendis’ creator-owned Jinxworld imprint at DC Comics. With more titles to come this year, including Cover, it’s going to be very interesting to see what Brian does next.
From the Publisher:
“From the Peabody Award-winning creators of Jessica Jones comes a brand-new creation. PEARL is the story of an exceptional tattoo artist and accidental assassin for one of the modern-day San Francisco Yakuza.
She was born into one life, but another is calling to her. When Pearl accidentally meets one of her peers, her doppelgänger from another clan, she starts to dream of a better life. But Pearl has a very special ability that keeps pulling her back into the violent world she is desperate to escape.
PEARL is a major series launch from writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos that features their first brand-new original character since Jessica Jones. Fans of the Jessica Jones comic and TV show will be thrilled and delighted by this bold new direction the creative team has taken.“
Title: The Wild Storm

I’ve been reading The Wild Storm since issue 1 and it’s been a fantastic journey. This comic may have passed you by but it’s combination of beautifully crafted storytelling and eye-wateringly stunning art makes it a must read. And does that lightning bolt on the cover mean something?
From the Publisher:
“What was Project Thunderbook? What did John Lynch do to the Thunderbook experimental subjects? Why did he shut it down and scatter them across America? So why isn’t Thunderbook subject Gloria Spaulding aging? Why do people act like she’s an alien? Well…alien is exactly what they made her at Thunderbook.“
Title: The Vigilant
