Shuri #NewComicBookDay 17th October 2018

New Comic Book Day including Shuri, The Unstoppable Wasp, The Thirteenth Doctor and Runaways

Time for this weeks new comics. Here are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available today from your local comic book store including Shuri, The Unstoppable Wasp, The Thirteenth Doctor and Runaways.

Title: Shuri

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team:  Nnedi Okorafor and  Leonardo Romero. Cover By Sam Spratt . Variant Covers by Jamal Campbell, Travis Charest, John Tyler Christopher, Terry Dodson and Skottie Young.

Although Shuri has appeared before in Marvel comics this new run is based on her recent breakout appearance in the MCU. A hugely popular character as a result this is great way for new reader to discover the wonderful world of comics.

From the Publisher:

The world fell in love with her in the movie. Now, the Black Panther’s techno-genius sister launches her own adventures – written by best-selling Afrofuturist author Nnedi Okorafor and drawn by Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero!

The Black Panther has disappeared, lost on a mission in space. And in his absence, everyone’s looking at the next in line for the throne. But Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one – and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda’s welfare and her own. “

Title: The Unstoppable Wasp

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: Jeremy Whitley and Gurihiru. Cover by Gurihiru. Variant Covers by Ben Caldwell, Yasmine Putri and Skottie Young.

Nadia has picked up quite the fanbase and it’s great to see her back in this new title. Perfect for younger readers this looks to be as much fun as her last comic and Gurihiru always supplies such gorgeous artwork.

From the Publisher:

Nadia Van Dyne, A.K.A. the UNSTOPPABLE WASP, and her team of girl scientists are back! With the backing of the original Wasp, Janet Van Dyne, there’s no problem the Agents of G.I.R.L. can’t solve!

But they’re not the only acronym-toting science organization out there, and when A.I.M. strikes, Nadia and the ladies of Genius In action Research Labs answer the call.

But who is A.I.M.’s new super-powered lieutenant, and how do they know Nadia? And what does A.I.M.’s plan have to do with Nadia’s father, Hank Pym? “

Title: Doctor Who: The Thirteenth Doctor

Publisher: Titan

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: Jody Houser, Rachael Stott and Enrica Eren Angiolini. Cover by Babs Tarr.

The Doctor is back and better than ever. I’m really looking for to the super team of Jody Houser and Rachael Stott taking us on new adventures in this new series from Titan Comics.

From the Publisher:

“The Doctor regenerates into her most thrilling incarnation yet – played by Jodie Whittaker, and traveling alongside three brand new companions!

Experience mind-blowing challenges and dynamic adventures through time and space – right alongside the Doctor and her friends! A new series for a new era on the TARDIS, from an astounding creative team – Eisner-nominated writer Jody Houser (Faith, Mother Panic, Star Wars: Rogue One, Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, Stranger Things), art by Rachael Stott (Doctor Who, Motherlands, Star Trek/Planet of the Apes) and colors from Enrica Angiolini (Shades of Magic: The Steel Prince, Warhammer 40,000)!

Commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime regeneration with thirteen variant covers from astounding comics artists! “

Title: Runaways

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 14

Creative Team:  Rainbow Rowell and  David LaFuente. Cover by Kris Anka.

I adore David LaFuente’s art so I don’t want to miss his issue of Runaways. Plus Old Lace – how can you lose?

From the Publisher:

“A truly terrifying villain from the Runaways’ past returns and gives the Runaways an ultimatum with the world in the balance.

The kids have had a hard enough time with a grandma and a 13-year-old, so…things look pretty bleak for everyone in the world.

Plus, see a story from a never-before-seen perspective! “
