The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Star Trek: Defiant
We have 12 new comics for you on the Pull List this week. The Comic of the Week title goes to Star Trek: Defiant from IDW Publishing. The other 3 comics on the List come from IDW and Marvel Comics. Our On The Radar selection includes 8 comics from Image Comics, Marvel, Dynamite, Titan Comics and DC Black Label. This week in MEANWHILE… it’s a quiet one for news again, so it takes another week off.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 6
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Angel Unzueta
Buy digitally on Comixology – Star Trek: Defiant #6 (Link)
The crossover event between Star Trek and Star Trek: Defiant continues here in part two of Day of Blood! Worf and Sisko begin their trek to Kahless’ spire to stop the false prophet’s siege of Qo’noS with each other being the last man either wants to rely on. Meanwhile, Spock takes the bridge of the Theseus, reuniting with his old friend Captain Montgomery Scott and desperately attempting to keep the Red Path’s Bloodwings at bay.
I really can’t stress how great these IDW Star Trek books are. Everything has build up nicely to this Day of Blood crossover, and the interplay of characters is perfection. If you’ve been enjoying live action Trek, then do yourself a favour and pick up these titles, because in some ways they are even better than those shows.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Lost Years
Issue 5
IDW Publishing
Script – Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman
Art – S.L. Gallant, Ben Bishop and Maria Keane
Colours – Luis Antonio Delgado
Letters – Shawn Lee
Buy digitally on Comixology – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Lost Years #5 (Link)
In the past: A wake of death and destruction stretches behind Michelangelo, trailing across years and continents, but at long last, fate has brought him face-to-face with the one who stands between him and vengeance: the one called Death Worm. Meanwhile, in the present (a.k.a. our future!): Chaos has taken hold of New York City, forcing Casey Marie Jones and her young Turtle pupils to make a choice: stand and fight or watch the world burn… The tantalizing tale of the beginnings of the Last Ronin concludes, but this is just the beginning of an all-new adventure. Don’t miss it!
Whilst this is the last issue of this run, I can’t see this being the last time we visit this time period. With Turtle mania about to hit an all time high, thanks to the release of the excellent Mutant Mayhem film, this is a great time to be a Turtles fan.
X-Men
Issue 25
Marvel Comics
Script – Gerry Duggan
Art – Stefano Caselli
Colours – Marte Gracia
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men #25 (Link)
THE FALL. She’s been known as Kitty, Sprite, Ariel, Red Queen and Captain Kate. Now, as a new X-Men team finds their way through their darkest hour…SHADOWKAT emerges!
The Fall of X is certainly shaking things up in the X-books but it’s great to see Kitty adapt the Shadowkat persona again. Maybe she’s a bit more violent than the younger version of the character, judging from the cover. It’ll be fun to see how all this pans out.
The Amazing Spider-Man Annual
Issue 1
Marvel Comics
Script – Erica Schultz and Celeste Bronfman
Art – Julian Shaw and Carlos Lopez
Colours – Andrew Dalhouse and Kike J Diaz
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 (Link)
Hallows’ Eve will attempt her biggest scheme yet: breaking Chasm out of jail! Currently imprisoned in Madelyne Pryor’s new demonic Limbo Embassy, Spider-Man’s misguided clone is more vengeful than ever, and Hallows’ Eve is the only one who dares to let him loose! Does she have the skills and nerve to go head-to-head against the Goblin Queen? And how will the dark tidings from this year’s Hellfire Gala impact her bold rescue attempt?
Hallows’ Eve takes top billing in this years Amazing Spider-Man Annual. The character was a breakout star of the Dark Web storyline. As that story was tied to the X-Men, I wonder how much this story will draw on current events in the X-Universe?
On the radar, some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Fantastic Four #10
Marvel Comics
Script – Ryan North
Art – Leandro Fernandez
Colours – Marte Gracia and Jesus Aburtov
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally from Comixology – Fantastic Four #10 (Link)
Thousands of years ago, a desperate alien race built a colossal sleeper ship—an ark—to escape their dying sun, setting a course toward a new and distant world. A single volunteer was to be awakened from stasis every hundred years to serve as their protector and caretaker, before finally training the next one. But something has gone horribly wrong. The ship’s engines have failed, and the ark is trapped in a dark void—infinite, silent and deadly—where even the light of stars can’t enter. The newest caretaker awakens to an empty ship. His predecessor’s body lies decaying against a bulkhead, beneath monstrous images of impossible beings drawn in blood. And the horrifying vision of an alien on fire hovers outside the ship, as the bang of rocky fists on the hull echoes throughout darkened hallways… PLUS: A bonus page written by Jonathan Hickman—WHO ARE THE G.O.D.S.?
