The Defenders – The Immortal Hulk #NewComicBookDay 5th December 2018

New Comic Book Day including The Defenders – The Immortal Hulk, The Merry X-Men Holiday Special, Star Trek vs. Transformers and Doomsday Clock.

Some personal favourites and a delayed issue in this weeks new comics. These are Geeky Brummie’s picks for the comics available today from your local comic book store including The Defenders – The Immortal Hulk and the late Doomsday Clock.

Title: The Defenders – The Immortal Hulk

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: Writer –  Al Ewing : Illustrator –  Simone Di Meo : Cover Illustrator –  Ron Garney

The original Defenders are back. This is the start of a five part series reuniting the first Defenders line-up of Hulk, Namor, Doctor Strange and The Silver Surfer. It’s a weekly event series with Namor #1 also out this week. Al Ewing has been doing a great job on the regular Immortal Hulk series so any way of getting more of that is very welcome.

From the Publisher:

Stephen Strange is dead. A charred skeleton in an abandoned barn on the edge of a deserted town.

Bruce Banner wants to know why. And he won’t stop until he has the truth in his hands…

…with or without THE IMMORTAL HULK. “

Title: The Merry X-Men Holiday Special

Publisher: Marvel

Issue No.: 1

Creative Team: Writers –  Chris Sims,  Charlamagne Tha God and others : Illustrators –  Kris Anka,  Marco Failla, PJ Holden and others : Cover Illustrator –  David Nakayama

PJ Holden does his first work for Marvel. What more do you need to know.

From the Publisher:

“Twenty-five holiday tales of merry mutants, one for each day of December 1 through December 25! What does Magneto do for Hanukkah? What’s Rogue and Gambit’s first married Christmas like? Is Jubilee truly the master of navigating malls during the holidays? These questions and more are answered as all your favourite X-Men and more creators than you can shake a jingle bell at come together for a holiday celebration to last all month long! “

Title: Star Trek Vs. The Transformers

Publisher: IDW

Issue No.: 3

Creative Team: Writers –  John Barber &  Mike Johnson : Illustrator & Cover –  Philip Murphy

Saturday morning cartoon fun in comic form. Phil Murphy is knocking it out of the park with his art – it’s spot on.

From the Publisher:

“Klingons and Decepticons lay siege to a remote Federation dilithium mine-and the only thing holding them back is the shaky alliance of Captain Kirk and Optimus Prime. But what dark secret is buried beneath the ground… and can this uneasy partnership withstand the revelations?

The Transformers ’80s cartoon series meets Star Trek: The Animated Series in a no-holds-barred Saturday Morning mash-up for the ages! “

Title: Doomsday Clock

Publisher: DC Comics

Issue No.: 8

Creative Team: Writer –  Geoff Johns : Illustrator & Cover –  Gary Frank

I must admit I had a less than favourable reaction to DC Rebirth. It didn’t feel right at the time to drag the Watchmen characters kicking and screaming in to the wider DC universe. Geoff Johns and Gary Frank have done a great job convincing me otherwise. This series has been very respectful to the source material and is proving to be a very enjoyable comic. We’re well past the half way point now and I’m looking forward to seeing how this story plays out. This was delayed from last week and may well be delayed again.

From the Publisher:

“The critical and commercial hit series by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank continues following the shocking revelations of last issue. As the truth behind Dr. Manhattan’s actions against the DC Universe are revealed, Ozymandias turns to the only being who can stop him: Superman. “
