The Geeky Brummie Pull List with BRZRKR
Another relatively quiet week on the Pull List again with the big release begin the comic debut of Hollywood superstar Keanu Reeves. As I have a soft spot for the guy of course I’d make it comic of the week. The second title on the Pull List is an old favourite that embarks on a new story arc this month. Three more great books worth checking out are On The Radar this week so do give them a try.
In Meanwhile… this week a new Netflix adaptation of a Mark Millar comic and the Alien infests Marvel.
Now on with the comics…
Title: BRZRKR
Issue: 1
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Written by Matt Kindt & Keanu Reeves : Art by Ron Garney : Colored by Bill Crabtree : Cover by Rafael Grampa
Genres: Action/ Adventure/Science Fiction
From the Publisher:
The man known only as Berzerker is half-mortal and half-God, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the world for centuries, Berzerker may have finally found a refuge — working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, Berzerker will be granted the one thing he desires — the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence… and how to end it.
Announced a while back and following a somewhat controversial Kickstarter campaign the first issue of the series is now in stores. BRZRKR, co-created by actor Keanu Reeves, follows the adventures of a mysterious immortal mercenary who undertakes black ops for the government. Reeves co-wrote the series with Matt Kindt, and served as the visual inspiration for the mercenary known only as B. Featuring some graphic violence this book has a lot to live up to and I hope it is delivers a worthwhile read.
Title: The Dreaming: Waking Hours
Issue: 8
Publisher: DC Black Label
Written by G. Willow Wilson : Art by Nick Robles: Coloured by Mat Lopes : Cover by Nick Robles
Genres: Fantasy/Horror
From the Publisher:
“The Faerie King,” the next major arc of The Dreaming: Waking Hours, begins here! Heather After has a theory about just where Ruin’s lost love might be found…but the realm of Faerie is a dangerous place under the best of circumstances, and as Ruin, Heather, and Jophiel will quickly find when they cross between worlds, the circumstances there have changed quite a bit! Don’t miss this jumping-on point for the series The Hollywood Reporter calls “a contemporary version of what Gaiman had achieved with The Sandman”!
Nick Robles is back after Javier Rodriguez’s two part story for the beginning of a new story arc in The Dreaming: Waking Hours. This series continues to impress and is my only Sandman Universe book after the sad ending of John Constantine: Hellblazer. G. Willow Wilson is doing a sterling job of continuing Neil Gaiman’s legacy and Nick Robles art is the perfect accompaniment. If you have any affection for Morpheus and the Dreaming you really should be picking up this book.
On the radar this week some other comics not yet on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Dark Horse Comics

Living up to the Legacy
Last week saw the release of the first teaser for the upcoming Netflix adaption of Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy.
Not much on display there but luckily the online IGN Fan Fest event with Mark Millar and actor Josh Duhamel that took place over the weekend featured a more in-depth look at the series.
And now Netflix has posted this official first look with original artist Frank Quitely.
Frank Quitely, the original comic book artist, picks up his pen again for this official first look at Mark Millar’s Jupiter’s Legacy. The first generation of superheroes have kept the world safe for nearly a century. Now their children must live up to their legacy. Streaming only on Netflix May 7th, 2021.
This all look very promising and I’ll certainly be tuning in when the series launches on Netflix May 7th, 2021.
In Space No-One Can Still Hear You Scream
After a long and successful run at Dark Horse Comics the Alien comic franchise has now infested Marvel. Over the last few months a whole bunch of variant covers has seen the infamous Xenomorph interacting with Marvel’s heroes. Now the publisher is releasing details of its first comic from the iconic world of the Alien franchise. With Alien #1, writer Philip Kennedy Johnson and artist Salvador Larocca will explore never-before-seen corners of the Xenoverse, offering something new for longtime fans and newcomers to the legendary horror/science-fiction saga.
The new series will introduce readers to Gabriel Cruz who years ago almost literally gave his life to Weyland-Yutani when he barely survived an alien attack. Recently retired, Cruz is trying to patch things up with his abandoned son with the help of his friend, a Bishop-model android, but his re-entry into civilian life is not going smoothly…and his encounters with the deadly Xenomorph are far from over. No one is safe. No one is innocent. And no one can hear you scream.
Check out horrors in store in this motion comic trailer, featuring artwork from the inaugural issue.
