The GB Pull List – Once and Future #15 – 20th January 2021

The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Once and Future

Another quiet one for the Pull List this week with only the Once and Future making the grade.

In Meanwhile… this week we look at the new DC Universe Infinite digital comic service and wonder if it will ever be available outside the USA.

Now on with the comics…

Title: Once and Future

Issue: 15

Publisher: BOOM! Studios

Written by Kieron Gillen : Art by Dan Mora : Coloured by Tamra Bonvillain

Genres: Action/Adventure/Fantasy

From the Publisher:

Bridgette and Duncan return to a familiar place to pick up Lancelot’s trail, while Rose comes face to face with another member of the McGuire family she was not expecting to see…

There is a lot to love about this fun action adventure comics. For one it is incredible to look at. Dan Mora and Tamra Bonvillain continue to provide page after page of outstanding visuals and  Kieron Gillen is making the most of reworking English myths, and he is stepping outside the Arthurian tales in this new story arc. Duncan, Bridgette and Rose are likable and entertaining with Bridgette being the standout as the shotgun toting Grandma. I’m looking forward to seeing how Gillen expands the story going forward and it’s great to see a series set in England and doing something very English.

DC Finite Universe?

DC is launching their new premium digital comic book service DC Universe Infinite on Thursday 21st January 2021. The new service will feature over 25,000 comics and graphic novels, including selections from Vertigo, DC Black Label, and Milestone Media. In addition to new releases six months after they launch in stops, it will feature Digital First titles three months after launch as well as new series exclusive to the service and exclusive access to DC fan events.

The service will have a newly designed app with a better and smoother comic reading experience and new personalization features, and if you previously had a DC Universe account it will transfer to DC Universe Infinite.

“This is just the beginning of DC UNIVERSE INFINITE’s transformation,” explained Pam Lifford, President of Global Brands and Experiences at Warner Bros. “Our fans will have access to a rich collection of their favorite comic books and publishing while connecting with a community that loves the same DC characters and brands.”

You’ll soon be able to find a portal into the DC Community hub at community dcuniverseinfinite.com, and you’ll also find a portal at dccomics.com, and both will have calendars of upcoming events. DC Universe Infinite will be available for iOS and Android for $7.99 a month or $75.99 a year.

The previous DC Universe never made it outside the USA and with all the movie and TV content moving to HBO Max it may mean any licencing issues will be removed. The DC Universe Infinite site currently states it’ll only be available in the US at launch but say –

Expanding to our international fans is important to us so we are working to bring DC UNIVERSE INFINITE to additional countries by summer 2021. Stay tuned for more updates.

So do you think we’ll ever see it here in the UK? I have my doubts but the pricing is something they will need to address as Comixology already have a great selection of DC Comics available with many great deals on collected editions. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
