The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Radiant Red
The spin off series from Radiant Black, the suitable named Radiant Red is my Comic of the Week. Filling out the Pull List are both issues of X Deaths and X Lives of Wolverine, which I’ve recently caught up with and make the leap on to the Pull List. We also have four great comics to look out for On The Radar from Image, Marvel and Fantagraphic Books. In MEANWHILE… previews the trailer for the new series of The Amazing Spider-Man which launches in April.
If you want to send any comics or comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com.
Now on with the comics…
Title: Radiant Red
Issue: 1
Publisher: Image Comics
Writer – Cherish Chen : Artist – David Lafuente : Colourist – Miquel Muerto
To her students, Satomi Sone is a diligent middle school teacher. And to her fiancé and parents, she’s the rock of their family. But to the world, she’s Radiant Red, a criminal turned matter-absorbing superhero. But with a mysterious stranger in her classroom, a nosy reporter on her doorstep, and $2.5 million hidden in the air vents of her house, she’s going to have to decide who she is, and quickly—before the world chooses for her.
For my sins, I’ve not been reading the parent series Radiant Black. I’m a huge fan of David Lafuente’s art so that is the primary reason I’m picking up this title. I’ve heard very good things about the main title and Kyle Higgins, creator of the Radiant Black Universe, is a writer who’s work I’ve enjoyed. With Chen and Lafuente on board this is sure to be a hit.
Title: X Deaths Of Wolverine
Issue: 4
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Writer – Benjamin Percy : Artist – Federico Vicentini : Colourist – Dijjo Lima
KRAKOA IN THE CROSSHAIRS! WEEK 8—The chase leads to the mutant nation of Krakoa, as the force of mutantkind’s ultimate destruction breaches its borders. Is this the last stand of Xavier’s dream? Readers and collectors take note: This will be a major turning point for the X-books!
CONTINUED FROM X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #4X LIVES OF WOLVERINE #5
I like that this book hasn’t been the Wolverine book I was expecting. Using the de-powered Dr. Moira MacTaggert as the core of the story has helped flesh out a story I thought was going to be left hanging after the events of Inferno. This series is my favourite of the two, and it zips along with verve and style.
Title: X Lives of Wolverine
Issue: 4
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Writer – Benjamin Percy : Artist – Joshua Cassara : Colourist – Frank Martin
DAYS OF OMEGA PAST! WEEK 7—WOLVERINE. OMEGA RED. Together? ’Nuff said.
CONTINUED FROM X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE #3 / CONTINUED IN X DEATHS OF WOLVERINE #4
Like X Deaths, I was a little late to the party here. Now having caught up with the previous issues I’m enjoying the Quantum Leap style story. The weekly schedule is zipping by quickly and the end is in sight.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
Captain Carter #1
Marvel Comics
Writer – Jamie McKelvie : Artist – Marika Cresta
WOMAN OUT OF TIME? A reality where Agent Peggy Carter took the Super-Soldier Serum is turned upside down when the World War II hero is pulled from the ice where she was lost in action decades before. Everyone with an agenda wants Captain Carter on their side, but what does Peggy want? And will she have time to figure it out when mysterious forces are already gunning for her? Prolific comics creator and designer Jamie McKelvie teams with rising star Marika Cresta to tell an unforgettable Captain Carter story for a modern age.
Little Monsters #1
Image Comics
Writer – Jeff Lemire : Artist – Dustin Nguyen
They are the last children on Earth…who also happen to be vampires. For longer than they can remember, these child vampires have lived a life of eternal wonder amongst the ruins of humanity. But shocking events fracture the group and set them on a path of discovery that will shatter their innocence forever.
Monkey Meat #3

As seen on the YouTube channel sensation, Cartoonist Kayfabe, from the creator of X-Men: Grand Design and Hip Hop Family Tree
