The Geeky Brummie Pull List with The Dreaming: Waking Hours
It’s getting to be a bit of a broken record but as schedules keep shifting I’ve only the only regular title on the Pull List this week. Five other new comics make it in to our On The Radar section though and you should definitely check them out.
In Meanwhile…we lost another comic great last week and so we pay tribute to the mighty Dave Evans otherwise known as Bolt-01.
Now on with the comics…
Title: The Dreaming: Waking Hours
Issue: 10
Publisher: DC Black Label
Written by G. Willow Wilson : Art by M. K. Perker & Nick Robles : Coloured by Mat Lopes : Cover by Marguerite Sauvage
From the Publisher:
The new ruler of the Kingdom of Faerie stands revealed-and it’s…Nuala? She may be one of the most beloved characters in the Sandman mythos, but she sure does seem, uh…how shall we say this…different? And amid this chaos, what secret from Heather After’s past will re-emerge when she needs it most?
Bet this surprised you. If you’re a regular reader of this column I’m sure you already know how much I lover this series. G. Willow Wilson is doing a phenomenal job writing this series and the art by Nick Robles (and M.K. Perker on this arc) is just beautiful. This is a worthy continuation of the legendary Vertigo series and if you were a fan of that I urge you to pick up this book.
On the radar this week some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey #6
Dark Horse Comics

Decades of searching have finally led Grendel Prime and Sigma-Seven to the planet Bojan Feq, which has an environment similar to Earth’s, and where civilization exists at medieval-level technology and is shared between three different intelligent species. But the entire culture operates under a feudal system and centers around a ritualistic form of combat known as “the Ordeal,” which Grendel Prime must navigate through.
Farewell Bolt-01
After the loss of John Paul Leon, we have lost someone else in comics, and this time it is much closer to home. Dave Evans, often better known as letterer Bolt-01, passed away on 5th May 2021.
Dave was a legend in world of British comics, not only as a letterer but as the man behind FutureQuake Press, publisher of the 2000 AD – related fanzines Dogbreath and Zarjaz.
Thanks to Geeky Brummie, I’d met Dave a few times at various events in Birmingham including Small Press Day, at what was then Nostalgia and Comics. Dave was a very delightful man, who always had time to talk about comics and encouraged people to get involved in comics. It was wonderful to see the outpouring of love and respect on social media for someone who obviously meant a lot to many.
Our condolences go out to Dave’s family, friends and all those who knew him.
There is a JustGiving page to help pay for his funeral, and to help his family give him the send off he deserves. You can donate here.
