The Geeky Brummie Pull List with Werewolf By Night
Welcome back to the Pull List, after our short end of summer break. Our Comic of the Week title is Werewolf By Night #1 from Marvel Comics. We have 4 other comics on the List coming from IDW Publishing, BOOM! Studios, DC Black Label and Marvel. Our On The Radar selection includes 6 comics from Marvel Comics, Image Comics, Dynamite and Dark Horse Comics. And MEANWHILE… returns with the results of last weekends 2023 Ringo Awards.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…
Werewolf By Night
Issue 1
Marvel Comics
Script – Derek Landy
Art – Fran Galan
Letters – Joe Sabino
Buy digitally on Comixology – Werewolf By Night #1 (Link)
AN UNHOLY ALLIANCE! In the shadows of black-and-white night, Jack Russell races to halt the sacrifice of a young girl at the hands of monsters. Elsa Bloodstone, in all her colorful monster-hunting glory, isn’t far behind. But can they put their differences aside long enough to save the day? And what would such a partnership even look like?
Long time readers should know I’m a huge Elsa Bloodstone fan, so it should some as no surprise that this one-shot is my comic of the week. It’s a shame Marvel didn’t capitalise on the success of last years Werewolf By Night Special TV event, and put out some more Elsa and Jack comics, but I’ll take my monster hunters where I can get them. All the variant covers for the book look awesome, but the Bill Sienkiewicz one looks pretty special.
Damn Them All
Issue 8
BOOM! Studios
Script -Simon Spurrier
Art – Charlie Adlard
Colours – Sofie Dodgson
Colour Assists – Daniel Silva De Carvalho
Letters – Jim Campbell
Buy digitally on Comixology – Damn Them All #8 (Link)
The stakes of the heist were hellishly high, as Theo finds a powerful demon in his collection missing, and only Ellie can get it back. He has something Bloody El desperately needs – something she can’t pass up if she wants to undo Alfie’s occultic crimes. But with both of them planning to double-cross the other… who will come out on top?
Consistently one of the best books on the shelves, Damn Them All, continues to be an incredible read. It takes the moody Mage trope and spins it off in new and exciting directions. Spurrier and Adlard clearly having a blast with this title and it will stay on my Pull for as long as they continue to put it out.
Danger Street
Issue 9
DC Black Label
Script – Tom King
Art – Jorge Fornés
Colours – Dave Stewart
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology – Danger Street #9 (Link)
A true joust the likes of which has not been seen since medieval times! Both knights, noble in their quest, are ready to do whatever it takes to bring honour to their sigil. Witness Manhunter and Codename: Assassin fight to the death in a match of wits and stamina as the life of the Commodore and the universe hang in the balance!
I’m really enjoying this book. It’s so great to see characters I used to love back in the late 70s and 80s return, and King knows what he is doing with them, even though they have changed, their soul remains intact. I love the Highlander influenced cover of the regular edition, but look out for an incredible card stock Walk Simonson variant featuring Dr. Fate.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes
Issue 5
IDW Publishing
Script – Marc Guggenheim
Art – Oleg Chudakov
Colours- DC Alonso
Letters – Jeff Eckleberry
Buy digitally on Comixology – Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Echoes #5 (Link)
Peace hangs in the balance with Akris and the Romulans’ plans to test the devastating Nightbringer weapon on an innocent population and with the Enterprise crew’s actions treading the line of the Federation-Romulan peace treaty. Meanwhile, Nyota has gone rogue after finding the crew’s actions too passive for her liking. Can Nyota and Kirk set aside their differences to ensure a peaceful resolution and avoid sparking the next intergalactic war? Find out in the finale of Star Trek: The Motion Picture: Echoes!
Here we are at the final issue of this series. I’ve had a great time revisiting the era of TMP, and I’d like to see more. This story whilst fun, has only touched upon a small amount of what happened between TMP and TWOK. If Heather Antos is listening, perhaps there is room for a book exploring the next mission for the Enterprise and the events that lead Kirk and co back to Khan.
X-Men: Red
Issue 15
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Yıldıray Çınar
Colours – Federico Blee
Letters – Ariana Maher
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men: Red #15 (Link)
SINS OF THE PAST! Under siege in Port Prometheus, Storm readies to hold the line against the ultimate bioweapon. Meanwhile, the Fisher King finds himself tormented by his strange new abilities…and the secrets in his memory might turn the tide of the Genesis War.
Still enjoying Al’s writing on this book and I’m curious to find out more about the Fisher King. I’m just about keeping track of how this all ties into Fall of X, but sometimes I wished they would number the stories like they did in the old days, Fall of X: Part 3 would be so helpful. But maybe that’s just me.
On the radar, some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:
The Incredible Hulk #4
Marvel Comics
Script – Phillip Kennedy Johnson
Art – Travel Foreman
Colours – Matt Wilson
Letters – Cory Petit
Buy digitally from Comixology – The Incredible Hulk #4 (Link)
THE GREEN GIANTS THROW DOWN! HULK VS. MAN-THING! Trouble awaits in the foggy bogs when a sultry seductress of the swamp lures unsuspecting victims into her trap! What is this mysterious creature’s connection to the Swamp Walker himself? It’s rage versus empathy as these two green goliaths come to blows—and even the Hulk isn’t immune to Man-Thing’s deadly acid! Guest artist Travel Foreman joins Phillip Kennedy Johnson for a twisted two-part tale!
LEGACY #785
The Cull #2

Mary the Multi-Monster! The Tripper! Crab Louie! Kid Curious! Persona! Formerly the offbeat B-list superheroes, The Alternates, who seemingly sacrificed themselves to stop an invasion from another dimension. Instead, they were transported to a mirror reality where they lived complex lives in a more four-dimensional existence–expanding both their powers and consciousness.
Five years later, they’ve returned to Twilight City, struggling to reacclimate to their old lives in a traditional two-dimensional superhero world–in withdrawal from the vivid ones they left behind. When elements from this alternate reality turn up as a dangerous new street drug, some of the heroes band together to destroy it, while others succumb to its temptation.
