Hello! Welcome to the latest Geeky Brummie Games Release Roundup!
This week, a quiet week with a few indies.
That’s right, things have settled a little for this week, with exactly four releases and all of them are relatively small. This is not a bad thing, as there are some cool ideas here.
New Releases
Planetiles (PC) is a strategy puzzle game about terraforming barren worlds. You place tiles around a planet, attempting to balance the ecosystem and build thriving worlds.
Developed by Polish developer MythicOwl (Harmony’s Odyssey).
Biomorph (PC) is a Metroidvania set on a strange alien world. You play as an amnesiac creature who wakes up on a strange spaceship which appears to be crashed on an unknown world. The only way to figure out what’s happening is to explore the world, help out the residents and absorb the essence of various monsters to gain their abilities. Standard stuff. I’ve played a bit of this one and so far the creature morphing powers has promise, although it’s a bit sluggish as Metroidvanias go. We’ll see how I feel about it by the end of the game though.
Developed by Canadian developers Lucid Dreams Studio (Legends of Ethernal).
Saviorless (PC, PS5, Switch) is a creepy cinematic platformer. It stars a child named Antar, who seeks to become a Savior by venturing to the forbidden Smiling Islands. But the journey is perilous, and you have to lead your defenceless avatar through all of it.
Developed by new Cuban developer Empty Head Games and published by Dear Villagers (The Forgotten City, Terra Memoria, Fort Solis).
Game of the Week
The latest Game of the Week is Beat Slayer (PC), a rhythm-based roguelike.
Ordinarily I wouldn’t make a roguelike my Game of the Week as I’m famously not a fan of the genre, but Beat Slayer managed to win me over. Okay, partly that was because of the really cool press kit I got sent but also it’s just fun on a mechanical level.
If you want to know more, why not read the full review? That should clarify some things.
Developed by German developers Byte Rockers Games (Insurmountable).
