Hello! Welcome to the latest Geeky Brummie Games Release Roundup!
This week, Square Enix’s terrible naming conventions and managing a football stadium.

Originally released for the PSP, the R-Type Tactics games took the beloved side-scrolling shooter and decided it needed to be a turn-based strategy game. And now they’re back as R-Type Tactics 1 & 2 Cosmos (PC, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox X/S), a remaster that combines both games into one package with reworked visuals and new missions following from the end of the second game’s main campaign.

In our quick mentions this week, Glimvale: My Mini Overworld (PC / Milkshake Games) is a cosy city builder and idle game about building an MMO village, Kooeh: A Timeless Delight (PC, Xbox X/S / Twilight Foundry Games) is a restaurant management game about uncovering lost family recipes and The Gate Must Stand (PC / Senmu Studio, Yogscast Games) is a Survivors-like with tower defence mechanics.
Thank You For Your Application (PC) is a satirical game about working in HR. You work as a junior interviewer whose job is to screen CVs and send appropriate thank you letters as corporate systems gets increasingly complex and bizarre. As someone who’s spent way too much of my adult life applying for jobs, I feel this one in my soul. Developed by IceLemonTea Studio and published by No More Robots.
Maseylia: Echoes of the Past (PC) is a beautiful looking 3D Metroidvania built heavily around movement mechanics. New abilities open up new ways of interacting with the world, allowing you even more free exploration. Developed by Sol Brothers.
With the World Cup going on right now, it feels like the appropriate time for Copa City (PC, PS5, Xbox X/S) to release. It’s a football manager but unlike Sega’s game of that name, this one is about managing the infrastructure of the city around the stadium on match day. Set in real cities with six real clubs, you must manage security, transport and funding as fans descend on the city. Developed by Triple Espresso.

Game of the Week is The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox X/S), Square Enix’s latest HD-2D game.
Set in the always sunny land of Philabieldia, you play as an adventurer named Elliot as he sets out to explore some ancient ruins in hopes of offering a solution to the roving beasts that plague the land. What he finds is the Doorway of Time which lets Elliot track to different time periods. Unlike previous HD-2D games, this is a full action RPG and bears more similarity to the Zelda series than something like Octopath Traveler.
Look, silly naming conventions aside for both the game and the world it’s set in, Square Enix’s HD-2D games have an excellent track record. Octopath Traveler, Dragon Quest remakes, Live a Live, all excellent games that have won over players and critics alike. So seeing them turn the formula towards a Zelda-style game instead of a turn-based RPG is something I’m paying a lot of attention to. I’ve heard complaints that the fairy companion makes Navi seem quiet but generally the opinion is that the game is a solid little adventure.
