Aggression, Madmen and Farewell Jim – Wednesday Comics. Welcome to Wednesday Comics. Each week, we will highlight our Comic of the Week, along with other notable releases, classic favourites, and industry news. After a couple of weeks off, I return for a very quiet week of comics, with only three titles. Its also a sad week, as we lost one of the true legends of the industry.
If you want to send any comics or details of any comic related events we should feature, feel free to reach out to me at keith@geekybrummie.com or comics@geekybrummie.com
Now on with the comics…

Gehenna: Naked Aggression #1
Image Comics
By Patrick Kindlon, Maurizio Rosenzweig, Matteo Vattani and Jim Campbell
Buy from Forbidden Planet – Gehenna: Naked Aggression #1 (Link)
There’s a contract out on Gehenna. But she’s managed to stay alive long enough that the contract has been resold several times as consolidated debt between criminal organizations. Now she intends to put a stop to the chain of custody on that contract. With a bullet.
Series creators PATRICK KINDLON (FRONTIERSMAN) and MARCO FERRARI (SCARLETT) and artist MAURIZIO ROSENZWEIG (Dylan Dog), bring you nonstop action inspired by Gun Honey and Elektra: Assassin.
This comic reprints the story that was originally serialised in the Image! 30th Anniversary Anthology. Writer Kindlon and artist Rosenzweig deliver a grindhouse-inspired thrill ride packed with incredible art, stylised violence, sharp pacing, and buckets of raw attitude. It blends pulp action with a morally complex heroine, offering a blood-soaked journey through a world where survival means striking first—and hardest. Perfect for fans of John Wick and Elektra: Assassin.

2000AD #2439
Rebellion
By Rob Williams, RM Guera, Giulia Brusco, Annie Parkhouse, Gordon Rennie, Jake Lynch, Dylan Teague, Jim Campbell, Alan Kerr, Ian Richardson, Pippa Bowland, Simon Bowland, Ed Whiting, Adam Stone, Ian Edginton and D’Israeli
Buy from 2000AD Webshop – 2000AD #2439 (Link)
A huge new story begins this week for Judge Dredd, as he heads to the jungle to track down a lead in the claustrophobic Tunnels. Rob Williams and RM Guera, the team responsible for last year’s Rend & Tear storyline set in the snowy wilderness, are at it again! And if you thought Guera was good at drawing the wilds, just wait till you see how he takes on a jungle.
Alongside, we have a Future Shock written by Ed Whiting and drawn by Adam Stone. Ed was the winner of our Thought Bubble Writer Search a year or two ago, and continues to write stories for The Galaxy’s Greatest – but also, step forward Adam Stone, who won last year’s Artist Search and makes his 2000 AD debut here! The 2000 AD Talent Search – over a decade of finding unpublished new talent and bringing them to the Prog!
2000AD continues the summer surge of high-octane sci-fi storytelling with a fresh batch of new thrills and one-off shocks from the stars of tomorrow.

Buy from Forbidden Planet – Madman Omnibus Vol. 1 TP (Link)
Over 600 pages drawn by legendary comics creator Michael Allred! For the first time, Madman’s debut series is presented in color for the ultimate surreal superhero reading experience in an affordable omnibus format.
From Madman’s first appearance through his mysterious origins to his adventures throughout time, space, and pop-art absurdity; follow Frank Einstein’s superhero alter ego Madman as he adventures through Snap City and encounters many zany and timeless characters and villains in this true homage to superhero fiction, metaphysical philosophy, 1950s science fiction films, rock and roll pop music, and much more in this true humorous and heartfelt comic book classic!
This six-volume Madman universe omnibus series collects all of Allred’s award-winning Madman universe (a.k.a. the “Madmaniverse”) stories in selected reading order for the ultimate Madman fan!
This 680-page volume collects Madman’s adventures from 1990 to 1996, reprinting “For the Record,” Madman (original series) 1–3, Madman Adventures 1–3, and Madman Comics 1–10, Mike Allred’s first foray comics called THEY!, and featuring bonus pinups and art by some of comics’ greatest talent like Frank Miller, Jack Kirby, Moebius, Frank Frazetta, Emily Carroll, and more!
Step into the kaleidoscopic world of Frank Einstein, the reanimated amnesiac turned offbeat superhero known as Madman, in this definitive collection of one of indie comics’ most beloved cult classics.
Madman Omnibus Vol. 1 brings together over 680 pages of surreal, pop-art-infused storytelling from the visionary mind of Michael Allred, now presented in full colour for the first time. This first volume collects Madman’s earliest adventures from 1990 to 1996. Set in the quirky, retro-futuristic Snap City, Madman’s journey is a wild blend of superhero satire, existential philosophy, 1950s sci-fi, and rock-and-roll energy. Whether he’s battling bizarre villains, time-traveling, or wrestling with his own identity, Madman’s adventures are as heartfelt as they are hallucinatory.
This is the first of six volumes in the “Madmaniverse” omnibus series, curated in a special reading order for longtime fans and newcomers alike. A must-have for collectors and lovers of boundary-pushing comics.

Farewell Jim Shooter
Visionary of the Comic Book World
Jim Shooter, the towering figure of American comics who reshaped Marvel during its most transformative era, has died aged 73 after a long battle with oesophageal cancer.

For British fans of comics, Shooter’s legacy is not just one of editorial authority, but of storytelling that crossed the Atlantic and helped define generations of comic readers.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1951, Shooter began writing for DC Comics at just 13 years old, scripting Legion of Super-Heroes stories that would go on to become cult classics. But it was his time as Editor-in-Chief at Marvel Comics from 1978 to 1987 that would cement his place in comic book history.
To readers here in the UK, Shooter’s Marvel was the Marvel of Secret Wars, The Dark Phoenix Saga, and the rise of the X-Men as cultural icons. His editorial reign saw the emergence of future legendary creators like Frank Miller, Chris Claremont, and John Byrne—names that became familiar to British fans through reprints in Marvel UK titles and the shelves of our local newsagents and comic shops.
Shooter was a controversial figure, known for his uncompromising editorial style and insistence on narrative clarity and structure. His vision extended beyond the page: he pioneered the concept of the company-wide crossover with Secret Wars (1984), a series that not only thrilled readers but also redefined how comics could be marketed and consumed.
After leaving Marvel, Shooter co-founded Valiant Comics, a publisher that found a loyal following in the UK during the 1990s comic boom. His influence continued to ripple through the industry, even as he remained a polarising figure among creators.
Lasting Legacy
For British fans, Shooter’s work was often encountered in black-and-white reprints, on spinner racks in corner shops, or in the pages of The Mighty World of Marvel. His stories, though American in origin, resonated deeply with readers across the UK, offering escapism, drama, and a sense of shared mythology.
Jim Shooter leaves behind a complex legacy—one of brilliance, boldness, and a relentless drive to elevate comics as a serious storytelling medium. In the UK, where his work inspired countless fans and creators alike, he will be remembered not just as an editor or writer, but as a legend.
Rest in peace, Jim Shooter. Your stories will live on in every panel turned and every hero remembered.
