Now on with the comics…
Batman: Dark Age
Issue 1
DC Comics
Script – Mark Russell
Art – Michael Allred
Colours – Laura Allred
Letters – Dave Sharpe
Buy digitally from Comixology/Kindle – Batman: Dark Age #1 (Link)
THE EISNER-NOMINATED SUPERMAN: SPACE AGE TEAM, MARK RUSSELL AND MIKE ALLRED, TAKE ON THE DARK KNIGHT! Meet Bruce Wayne, Gotham’s favorite delinquent son. In an origin story like no other, witness the boy become a dark knight shaped by a city in turmoil as it marches towards its prophesied doom. Set against the backdrop of actual historical events, Gotham comes alive, filled with the iconic characters who’ve loved and hated Batman over the years like you’ve never seen them before. Spinning out of the Eisner-nominated Superman: Space Age, Mark Russell and Mike Allred return to give audiences a look at Batman as a figure in American history fighting for justice in a world gone mad.
From the creators of the excellent Superman: Space Age, comes this unique journey through Gotham’s history. This is a fresh take on the Batman mythos, setting Bruce’s story against the backdrop of real historical events. Russel is one of my favourite writers, and the Allred’s look to complement the story beautifully, capturing the essence of Gotham’s gritty past with a vibrant yet dark palette that reflects the tone of the story.
This looks to be a memorable addition to the Batman canon and must have for fans of the Dark Knight.
Power Girl
Issue 7
DC Comics
Script – Leah Williams
Art – Marguerite Sauvage
Letters – Becca Carey
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Power Girl #7 (Link)
SUPERGIRLS UNITED! The Supergirls are trapped! While tracking down the missing citizens of Metropolis, Paige and Kara have found themselves powerless in the mythical realm of Ferembia. They’ll now have to rely on their wits to find an escape and the brains behind the whole operation before they’re stuck in their own personal dark age!
I’m loving the fantasy adventure in these issues, where the heroes have to face challenges with their usual strengths stripped away. The art is as beautiful as you would expect from Sauvage, who’s fantasy world is just magnificent to behold. This book is a testament to the creative possibilities of the comic book medium, and the mix of superhero action and fantasy adventure is super fun.
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 13
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Angel Unzueta
Colours – Marissa Louise
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Star Trek: Defiant #13 (Link)
Starbase 99 has been compromised. Worf and the Defiant crew are quarantined within, desperately trying to evade the infected as their parasitic counterparts flood the floors of the base. To make matters worse, one of the crew’s bounties is dead, another missing. Can the crew survive this raging parasitic invasion on the desolate starbase?
This is how you do Star Trek comics. A call back to an unresolved storyline from the very first season of The Next Generation, this book is taking that dangling thread and running with it. This comic has a real sense of urgency and I honestly don’t know who they will deal with it.
Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures II
Issue 3
IDW Publishing
Script – David M. Booher
Art – George Cambodian
Colours – John-Paul Bove
Letters – Ed Dukeshire
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures II #3 (Link)
Shipwrecked! Having barely survived their brush with a Sword Coast leviathan, the party finds themselves washed up at the island hideout of a brutal pirate captain. The good news? They’ve found Bobby. The bad news? Bobby has joined the ruthless pirate crew! Forced to prove his loyalty, he must now choose one of his friends to face the most terrifying monster yet. And this creature is most definitely not thrilled to see them.
If you’ve been following the adventures of this quirky D&D party since last year’s acclaimed Saturday Morning Adventures miniseries, you’re in for a treat. Issue 3 delivers suspense, humour, and unexpected twists. Whether you’re a seasoned D&D player or a newcomer, this comic is a delightful addition to your pull list.
Rise of the Powers of X
Issue 3
Marvel Comics
Script – Kieron Gillen
Art – R. B. Silva
Colours – David Curiel
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Rise of the Powers of X #3 (Link)
THE REAL END IS NEVER BEGINNING! The past, present and future of Krakoa all rests in a trigger finger. The scenario you prayed would never happen plays out as two series that are one move toward a crash that will reverberate outside the universe…
Everything is coming full circle, as Moria is once again at the centre of the mutants future. It’s a shame the Krakoa Era is coming to an end but I am curious to see how all these talented creators hit the big reset button without reader ultimately feeling cheated.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 46
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – Carmen Carnero
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Amazing Spider-Man #46 (Link)
Spidey is cleaning up the mess that is his life after some of the most harrowing conflicts of his life. Electro isn’t going to wait for Spidey to figure his problems out, though. A dangling thread from earlier in the run that you forgot was dangling starts to pull the sweater apart!
LEGACY #940
This issue picks up a dangling thread from earlier in the series, unravelling new challenges for Spidey. The classic lineup of Sinister Six villains also make a comeback, adding ot the electric tension in the story. This issue promises to pull at the treads of Spider-Man’s life, setting uo what seems to be an explosive confrontation.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:

Cemetery Kids Don’t Die #2

Letters – AndWorld Design
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Cemetery Kids Don’t Die #2 (Link)
Creators Zac Thompson (Hunt for the Skinwalker) and Daniel Irizarri (XINO) navigate an uncanny reality where the monsters are anything but science fiction . . . After Pik’s tragic encounter with the King of Sleep, Birdie is adamant that her brother—while appearing to be in a coma—is actually trapped within the game Nightmare Cemetery. With Wilson and Enid by her side, they enter the Piped District where the game play increases in complexity and horror as it taps into their deepest fears.
Jump in to 2000AD
New readers start here! The new issue of 2000 AD has been precision-tooled for those hungry to discover why it’s called the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic – with bitingly good stories from top comics talent!
Acclaimed Scalped and Django Unchained artist R.M. Guera heads the new issue’s stunning creative line-up alongside Suicide Squad and Petrol Head writer Rob Williams, Alex de Campi (Dracula, Motherf**ker!), Eduardo Ocaña (Messiah Complex), Simon Davis (The Royal Society of Portrait Painters), and many more in a special bumper issue.
2000 AD #2375 is a 48-page special on sale from 27 March, with a bold new cover by Hitman artist John McCrea and colourist Jack Davies.
This latest issue is designed to make it easy for new readers to pick up 2000AD, with a mix of brand new stories and ongoing series that showcase the best the GGC has to offer!
Reunited on Judge Dredd for the first time since 2014’s ‘The Man Comes Around’, Williams and Guera’s new story, ’First Man Up’, is the prelude to their forthcoming thriller ‘Rend & Tear with Tooth & Claw’, which begins in 2000 AD#2376, on sale 3 April.
Supported by colourist Julia Brusco and letterer Annie Parkhouse, ’First Man Up’ sees Dredd plunge into the dangerous streets of Mega-City One to select a Cadet Judge for a new, top secret mission – but what many-fanged horrors await them in the coming weeks?
There is the senses-expanding return of alien space Imperium super-agent Proteus Vex in ‘Devious’ by Michael Carroll (Dreadnoughts) and Jake Lynch (Judge Dredd). As the centuries-long war between the Alliance and the Obdurate people ends, Vex is now wanted, missing, and presumed dead…
With the announcement of the Rogue Trooper movie in 2025, it’s the perfect time to discover the missions of the lone blue-skinned Genetic Infantryman and, in the complete story ‘War Child’, writer David Barnett (Eve Stranger), artist Paul Marshall (Judge Dredd), colourist Pippa Bowland and letterer Jim Campbell reveal the all-too-harsh realities of life on war-torn Nu Earth.
Meanwhile, Alex de Campi, Eduardo Ocaña, Eva De La Cruz and Annie Parkhouse continue the space opera on Full Tilt Boogie as teenage bounty hunter Tee, her grandmother and cat – as well as their unintended passengers, a prince and a resurrected warrior – seek refuge but find their troubles only multiplying; and Kek-W, Lee Carter and Jim Campbell step into a world where everything really is black-and-white in reality-warping saga Indigo Prime.
Plus there’s the mind-shattering conclusion of the latest series of fully-painted folk horror Thistlebone, ‘The Dule Tree’ by T.C. Eglington and Simon Davies.
2000 AD #2375 is a 48-page special on sale from 27 March from all good comic book stores and newsagents, as well as digitally through the 2000 ADwebshop and app.
