Now on with the comics…
Battle Action
Issue 2
Rebellion
Script – Garth Ennis and Dan Abnett
Art – Phil Winslade and Chris Burnham
Buy physicallly from the 2000AD Webshop – Battle Action #2 (Link)
The new series of Battle Action continues with the return of Crazy Keller from Garth Ennis (The Boys, Preacher) and Chris Burnham (Batman: Incorporated, Unstoppable Doom Patrol), as Keller finds himself in the aftermath of WWII dealing with the legacy of the Nazis and their indoctrinated soldiers.
Also in this issue, Dan Abnett (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Phil Winslade (Howard the Duck) tell the story of D-Day Dawson, the soldier whose mortal wound spurs him on to heroic deeds, as he stands against overwhelming odds to save French civilians from encroaching German forces.
This first issue of Battle Action was a barnstorming success so I was looking forward to future issues. This time Ennis teams up with Chris Burnham, who is currently working on another Pull List favourite, Unstoppable Doom Patrol, on the return of Crazy Keller, while Dan Abnett and Phil Winslade, of Lawless fame, tackle D-Day Lawson, who was last seen in 1977. The quality of this book is outstanding and any self respecting British comic fan should definitely pick it up.
Dungeons and Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures
Issue 4
IDW Publishing
Script – David M. Booher
Art – George Kambadais
Buy digitally on Comixology – Dungeons and Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #4 (Link)
In the exciting conclusion, the gang are reunited, but Sheila, Bobby, Presto, and Hank are still mesmerized by Phaelona’s glamorous charm. Can anything stop an all-out fight between friends? As Phaelona’s untamed powers let loose in full force, the architect of the whole adventure is revealed… and if you thought it was Venger, well, you’d be right!
Unfortunately we are already at the end of this all too brief journey back to the realm of Dungeons and Dragons. This book perfectly captured what I loved about the original cartoon, and I’m glad to say they will be back in August for the IDW Endless Summer special.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Lost Years
Issue 4
IDW Publishing
Script – Tom Waltz and Kevin Eastman
Art – S.L. Gallant, Ben Bishop and Maria Keane
Colours – Luis Antonio Delgado
Letters – Shawn Lee
Buy digitally on Comixology – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin – Lost Years #4 (Link)
In the past: Michelangelo’s journey toward vengeance takes a detour when he’s captured, imprisoned, and forced to take part in a gladiatorial competition with fighters from all over the world. Though new friendships are formed with would-be foes, one thing is certain: the only way to attain his freedom is to fight. It will take all Michelangelo’s skill to defeat those who stand between him and vengeance. Meanwhile, in the present (a.k.a. our future!): Casey Marie Jones and her young Turtle pupils grapple with the lessons left by their late sensei Michelangelo as the situation in NYC worsens.
The Last Ronin was always going to be a hard act to follow, but the Lost Years is doing a pretty great job of filling in the blanks and carrying us further into the future. There are some great variant covers to look out for as always.
She-Hulk
Issue 14
Marvel Comics
Script – Rainbow Rowell
Art – Andrés Genolet
Colours – Dee Cunniffe
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology – She-Hulk #14 (Link)
The secret history of THE SCOUNDREL revealed! The coolest new villain of 2023 has been shrouded in mystery, but SHE-HULK is putting on her detective hat and getting to the bottom of it…
LEGACY #177
Is it bad that I want Jennifer to kick the Scoundrels butt? Since he appeared, things have gotten more distant between Jen and Jack, and that can’t all be down to Jack getting his powers back. Snap out of it Jen, you and Jack belong together. Am I too invested in their relationship? You betcha, and that’s why this book is a standout.
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 28
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells
Art – Ed McGuinness and Mark Farmer
Colours – Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Amazing Spider-Man #28 (Link)
The new-and-improved Doctor Octopus takes his upgraded tentacles for a rampage through Oscorp! Can the deadliest Doc Ock ever be stopped?
LEGACY #922
I constantly see people dismissing this series, and yet it is the seconded most pulled book on League of Comic Geeks, after Batman: Detective Comics. I’m having fun with this book and the pairing of McGuinness and Farmer, means it’ll look great. Keep and eye out for a lovely Kaare Andrews variant cover.
On the radar some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

Art – Felipe Sobreiro and Brad Simpson

Warlock: Rebirth #3
Marvel Comics

Art – Ron Lim and Don Ho
Colours – Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Letters – Joe Sabino

She has the whole crew scrambling to prepare a funeral for the last First Officer, but the Captain needs to get this ship and its cargo moving, specifically, moving away from any battlefields. But despite his best efforts, the crew of the Bush may see some action. Don’t miss the explosive finale of the first arc of Space Job!
