Now on with the comics…
Damn Them All
Issue 12
BOOM! Studios
Script – Simon Spurrier
Art – Charlie Adlard
Colours – Daniel Silva and Sofie Dodgson
Letters – Jim Campbell
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Damn Them All #12 (Link)
In a final showdown between the devils and the angels attached to Theo’s strings, Ellie is seemingly alone against their deranged, infernal and celestial screaming.
But allies may be ready to fly in at any moment… revealing that The Rules can in fact be broken, and El’s flesh and blood will play a fateful part in the destiny of hell.
Damn Them All comes to an end with this issue. It’s been a great run and has given us another great addition to the pantheon of moody British magic users. The loss of this book is slightly lessened by the return of Spurrier to DC and the original Hellblazer. I hope that there is a chance we’ll see more from Ellie down the road, but I hope the series goes out with a suitably large bang!
Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures
Issue 1
IDW Publishing
Script – David M. Booher
Art – George Kambadais
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Dungeons & Dragons: Saturday Morning Adventures #1 (Link)
Some time has passed since the team’s adventure in Waterdeep. Now Dungeon Master is growing weaker with an unknown ailment, and while thoughts of returning home are never far from their minds, the team must save their mentor and friend. Sailing between planes in their Spelljammer, the party finds themselves on the swashbuckling Sword Coast. With Venger closing in and pirates blocking the way forward, can our heroes cure Dungeon Master before it’s too late? Eisner-nominated writer David M. Booher and George Kambadais are back to kick off a massive plane-hopping quest featuring brand-new locations and some very familiar faces never seen in cartoon form!
I had a lot of fun with the first run of this book, based on the 80s cartoon series. Now they are back and I’m totally down for more adventuring with Hank and the gang.
Power Girl
Issue 5
DC Comics
Script – Leah Williams
Art – David Baldeón
Colours – Romulo Fajardo Jr.
Letters – Becca Carey
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Power Girl #5 (Link)
CAN STREAKY THE SUPER-CAT SAVE METROPOLIS? The cat’s out of the bag—Streaky takes center stage in a hair-raising adventure! Will the super-pet have what it takes to save Metropolis from its greatest canine threat? Or has the city really gone to the dogs?
The last issue of the series left us on a bit of a cliffhanger, but it seems that before we find out what will happened with the symbioship, we get an interlude with Streaky, the Super-Cat. And I can’t wait.
The Immortal Thor
Issue 6
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Martín Cóccolo
Colours – Matt Wilson
Letters – Joe Sabino
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – The Immortal Thor #6 (Link)
A LEGEND FROM THE PAST! The All-Father sought answers to his new troubles in memories of old. And to refresh those memories, he consulted his Skald…to tell a tale of when Young Thor and Young Loki journeyed out beyond Asgard—on a quest that would determine the fate of all the Realms. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR…and of his first Journey Into Mystery.
LEGACY #767
This has been a great book so far and I can’t wait to see what Al and the team have in store for us next.
Star Trek: Defiant Annual
Issue 1
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Ramón Rosanas
Colours – Lee Loughridge
Letters – Clayton Cowles
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – Star Trek: Defiant Annual #1 (Link)
After the classified information she stole from the Klingon High Council fails to earn back her favor with Romulan intelligence, Commander Sela is forced to take drastic action and turns back the clock-literally. But what was supposed to be a surefire plan to correct her failed coup over the Klingons quickly spirals into chaos when the technology malfunctions and sends her to a devastated war-torn past with the last person Sela ever wanted to see again-her mother, Tasha Yar.
The regular series has been a great read and this annual gets to focus on one of the most fascinating characters to come out of TNG.
ROM: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus
Vol.1 Hardcover
Marvel Comics
Script – Bill Mantlo
Art – Sal Buscema
Buy digitally on Comixology/Kindle – ROM: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus #1 (Link)
COLLECTED FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!
He strikes from outer space…and nothing can stop him! Marvel Comics is proud to present the iconic early adventures of the greatest of Spaceknights — Rom! Centuries ago, Rom pledged his life to protect his planet, Galador, from the evil Dire Wraiths. Now, Rom has tracked these vile creatures across the cosmos to Earth, where they have infiltrated the highest levels of power — including S.H.I.E.L.D. itself! Armed with his energy analyzer, only Rom can see the Wraiths’ true form — and with his neutralizer, he can blast them into Limbo! But what will Earth make of this armored invader? Will Rom’s quest be aided or hindered by encounters with the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Jack of Hearts, Nova, and Power Man and Iron Fist? And when Galactus targets Galador, can Rom and his fellow Spaceknights save their homeworld from destruction?
Collecting ROM (1979) #1-29 and POWER MAN AND IRON FIST (1978) #73.
Marvel have been making a big deal about ROM for a few months now, with the various variant covers, facsimile editions and the recent Marvel Tales release. Now is your chance to find out why this is one of my all-time favourite comics, with the release of this first Omnibus of the classic tales. ROM may have been a toy tie-in comic, but in the hands of Mantlo and Buscema, this has become one of the greatest tales told in the Marvel Universe, which still ripples through the fabric of the characters, to this day.
On the Radar, these are comics I’ve not got on my physical Pull List, but are books I’ll pick up digitally or in trades:

Art – Ivan Reis, Bryan Hitch, Gary Frank, Jason Fabok and Lamont Magee
Colours – Francis Manapul

Zawa is healing, being around such kindness, and playing a personal part in regrowth, to Bandit’s joy.
But the roar of the mountain, and the vile voice of the mayor may have the final say…
