Now on with the comics…

CHAPTER 6: THE DINGBATS OF DANGER STREET
The unforgettable maxiseries takes some startling twists and turns! To survive the Manhunter’s deadly mission, must the Green Team become a solo venture? Only the Commodore knows for sure! Meanwhile, the Outsiders reveal their plans and, in the aftermath of Orion’s failure, Highfather and Darkseid make a pact to assure their worlds’ survival!
Danger Street continues to be one of the most compelling books coming out of DC. Tom King is a writer who has breathed new life into the most unlikely of characters. Jorge Fornés, Dave Stewart and Clayton Cowles work together to match the writing with some incredible visuals. I highly recommended this wonderful series.
The Ambassadors
Issue 4
Image Comics
Script – Mark Millar
Art – Olivier Coipel
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Ambassadors #4 (Link)
Our most action-packed issue yet moves the story to Brazil, where a Catholic priest fighting drug lords is offered a spot on this international super-team-but he’s happy just doing God’s work in the Barrios.
We are off to Brazil as Olivier Coipel picks up the pencil for this issue. I’m enjoying this story and the changing art teams really help to sell the various characters and locations we find our proto-heroes.
Star Trek: Defiant
Issue 3
IDW Publishing
Script – Christopher Cantwell
Art – Angel Unzueta
Buy digitally on Comixology – Star Trek: Defiant #3 (Link)
Amid a ruse gone wrong, Worf and his away team of B’Elanna Torres and Ro Laren find themselves imprisoned by Orion pirates wary of the supposed Maquis separatists. Meanwhile, in the captain’s chair of the Defiant, Spock struggles to defend the ship with Lore’s musings of chaos in his ear.
Now Picard is over I’m so glad IDW is absolutely nailing it with their flagship title and this one. Filling in the time between the end of the TNG era and the future of Picard, there is plenty happening here to keep fans happy.
Samurai Doggy
Issue 6
Aftershock Comics
Script – Chris Tex
Art – Santtos
Buy digitally on Comixology – Samurai Doggy #6 (Link)
After a long and tiring search, Doggy has finally found one of his siblings, but after so much time apart, can Doggy trust him?
Is this the end? I’m not sure but this may be the final issue of the series. I’ve loved the kinetic art and the glorious fights, but the tale of Samurai Doggy has been an emotional ride and I hope it all ends with some sense of a happy ending.
Miracleman: The Silver Age
Issue 5
Marvel Comics
Script – Neil Gaiman
Art – Mark Buckingham
Colours – Jordie Bellaire
Letters – Todd Klein
Buy digitally on Comixology – Miracleman: The Silver Age #5 (Link)
Miracleman continues his search for Dickie Dauntless, A.K.A.. Young Miracleman. As we learn more about Miracleman’s forgotten past, we see that he could use all the help he can get. But will he accept it?
This has been well worth the wait. Gaiman and Buckingham have not skipped a beat in this story of the most powerful being on the planet.
X-Men: Red
Issue 11
Marvel Comics
Script – Al Ewing
Art – Jacopo Camagni
Colours – Federico Blee
Letters – Ariana Maher
Buy digitally on Comixology – X-Men: Red #11 (Link)
THE CALM BEFORE… After Brand’s machinations and the Sins of Sinister, the mutants of Arakko are catching their breath…but even as Storm begins a new romance, she has no time to rest. Charles Xavier has questions about Magneto’s death. He’s not asking nicely.
And we’re back with the regular titles after the Sins of Sinister interlude. There is a lot going on for Storm, will she be able to get a handle on it all before The Fall?
The Amazing Spider-Man
Issue 25
Marvel Comics
Script – Zeb Wells and Rainbow Rowell
Art – Kaare Andrews, Alvaro López, John Romita Jr. and Scott Hanna
Colours- Marcio Menyz
Letters – Joe Caramagna
Buy digitally on Comixology – The Amazing Spider-Man #25 (Link)
The past and the present collide in this oversized and monumental 25th issue! Your heart isn’t ready for this one.
LEGACY #919
This Zeb Wells run seems to have divided fans but I’m quite enjoying it, and having JRJR on art is not to be passed up. It’s an oversize package this week and we get an extra Rainbow Rowell story in this silver anniversary issue.
On the radar some other comics not on the Pull List but well worth checking out:

New Hedrek Kickstarter
We have featured previous Hedrek books from Scratch Comics (Link) here in MEANWHILE… and now we have a Special One Shot Anthology “Broken Pieces”, telling some stories set between the events seen in Hedrek Night Of The Mummers.
As we near the final issue of the hard hitting folk horror detective story Hedrek Night Of the Mummers, co creator and writer Laurence Alison has decided to tell 4 essential short stories set around the events of the first two issues.
These stories shine a light on some of the main characters from the first two issues and even introduce new characters appearing in the final issue for the first time.
Therefore, if you enjoyed the first two issues this is an essential book for you and if you are new to the world of Hedrek, you can catch up with the whole series with this campaign.
Prepare to be taken down the rabbit hole of crime & spooky weirdness, where the Wicker Man meets Columbo and where no punches are pulled by this top creative team.
As usual there are some great perks on offer including catch up bundles if you’ve missed any of the previous Hedrek issues. You can pledge now until 22nd May 2023 over on the Hedrek “Broken Pieces” Kickstarter page – here (Link).
Stare Into The Fist of Dredd Figure Set
It’s one of the most iconic panels in comic history – and now “Gaze into the fist of Dredd!” is being brought to life as an action figure set from HIYA Toys!
The two-figure 1/18 scale PVC action figure set of Judge Dredd and Judge Fear will be coming to stores in early 2024.
Judge Fear is the terror-inducing member of the Dark Judges, the alien superfiends from a dimension where all life has been declared a crime – and a single look behind the gothic windows of his helmet visor reveals his victim’s worst fear, scaring them to death!
But in the 1981 Judge Dredd story ‘Judge Death Lives’, drawn by the legendary artist Brian Bolland, when Judge Fear invites Dredd to “Gaze into the face of Fear!” rather than succumb to terror Dredd instead smashes his fist straight through Fear’s head and declares “Gaze into the fist of Dredd!”.
Regularly cited by fans as one of Dredd’s greatest ever moments, the Exquisite Mini Series 1/18 Scale 4 Inch Judge Dredd: Gaze Into The Fist of Dredd Action Figure set will retail at $39.99 (USD) and will be available to pre-order from retailers from 10 May.
The Judge Fear figure comes with 13 points of articulation and Dredd with 16 points, plus shoulder and joint pads, and chains and badges of office. Judge Fear’s helmet has been remodelled to allow you to set up the classic pose, with a fist-sized hole for Dredd to punch through!
The latest addition to the brand new range of fully-poseable 1/18 scale figures will come shipped in an attractive protective cardboard window box.
